Hit the water a little later and was out NW of the green can @ 8:00. The drift was quicker and the rock cod were larger on average. By 10 the rock cod bite slowed but the shaker ling and cabazon picked up. Kept a few fish for friends and family. Wind really picked up by noon. Made for a great cardio paddle back in lol.

Nice catch!  If ya don't mind, what were you using to hook 'em?

Thanks. Squid tipped customized PLine laserminnows. I'll post a pic of my rig tomorrow.

Nice catch. Doesn't the marine protected area start north of the green can? Just wanted to confirm so I know next time I head out there. thanks

There's another can just off the Mavericks point. That's not the one I'm referring to. The one about a mile south of the horn and just past the boiler rock.
Thank you Great Bass 2 for the clarification map.

What I meant was I was catching a lot of shaker cabs. Released them all. Kept a couple greenlings for the steamer.

And as promised here's a pic of my rock cod set up.
2-3oz PLine laser minnow with upgraded spit rings and switched out treble hooks for a j hook. On the top split ring I have a kokanee hoochie on a swivel and j hook (where the squid strip goes). That runs up another foot to a swivel where I attach my braid main line via Bimini twist. Snags are almost nonexistent but when I get really stuck, it's 95% of the time the bottom split ring or j hook that will fail allowing me to keep my $6 jig.

Nice set up.  Seems like with that set up you will be hooking  the smaller rockfish.  I go for the smaller rockfish when I need steamers for dinner.

Post updated. Thank you for that. I was told 3 hooks was okay but after looking at the regs I see otherwise...
