The question then lies in do these salmon recognize their way back to the hatchery? Since they need to recognize markers on the way down the river this is the dilemma. I wonder if any one of our biologists here would like to chime in about this one.

No they won't.  Some will return incidentally to natural spawning areas, usually as a result of schooling up with wild or river-released hatchery fish.  they are pretty much sacrificial fish, not intended for spawning.

MBSTP will have a petition up on the web within a couple days to express support for continued salmon fishing within the Santa Cruz Harbor.  I will announce here and hope all will take a moment to click through to let them know public opinion is pro-fishing!

Man that is Kool to have fresh ocean salmon right there in SC harbor and to catch. I hope they allow the fishing to continue. Man, u cant do shit anymore in CA. I'm seriously thinking of moving up north if this BS continues. Might be NWKA for me in a few... :)
