I'm heading to Grass Valley middle of next week and would like to take my kayak to get a little bass fishing in (I like using swimbaits). Don't know anything about the area, but Collins Lake and Bullards Bar Reservoir sound like good places for Spotted Bass! Any advice or info which lake is better for fishing bass in a kayak? I found out Collins Lake ramp is OK, but still need to find out if Bullards Bar Reservoir ramps are in good shape. Any information is appreciated here or you can PM me.
Thanks for your time, Chris

Call the marina at Bullards to get ramp info. Huge spots in there but not the best time of year to fish due to lake lice. Big spots in Berryessa also & at least that's a lot closer so fishing for half a day ,before the lice get too thick, is doable.

Lakes up here are dropping fast. fish are on the move and the bite is tough. Bring lots of tackle and keep tossing till you get bit. the lakes are torn up by boats and jet ski's after 11-12 ish. early bite is best bet... rollins has some good structure, bullards is LOW and I couldn't begin to tell you where the fish are... Collins always has fish but is a pay to play lake $$$ every time you turn around :smt011 entry, boat launch, fishing fee... If you let me know your headed to Rollins I can probably join you and show you the hot spots from 5:30-6ish till dark+ I need to get out there soon. Might go thurs night.

Use the search index in upper right corner to find other lake info :smt006

Thanks for the feedback! The reason I'm doing one of these lakes in Grass Valley area is I'm visiting my oldest boy's family that has moving up there not long ago and while up in Grass Valley thought I get a little time in kayak fishing on 1 of the days! Bad thing it's also July 4th weekend, so hitting it early seems best thing also for half a day! Also gets me on a lake I haven't fished!! Thanks again!!

Thanks for info!! I'm in Grass Valley now and my boy was telling me to go to Rollins also since it's 20 mins away max he said! Was thinking about hitting Rollins Thursday now in the morning but can check with family in the morning about adjusting plans to hook up with you if want! Let me know where since I'm figuring out which ramp and fees if any!

Early morning or late evening topwater action at Scotts Flat would be my first choice.

Ron's info on Collins is wrong. Just entry fee. About $10. No launch fee for kayaks or fishing fee.

Bullards. Have not been up there since the rains we go this year, but the lake came up a lot. From the top of the ramp at Dark Day to the bottom of the ramp is over 1/4 mile long with 3 switchbacks as it drops. There should still be plenty of ramp left there. I bet the Kokes are doing good there now.

Oooops, Was thinking Amador not collins :smt005 Give me a call some time today... if you hit it this morning. go to greenhorn access and when you launch go strait across to the coves and fish the stumps and follow shore to the right... the beach area and hole next to the boat ramp are productive. as you go out of the 5mph area to the left of launch there is a LARGE sand bar area shallow. water level will determine if you can get to the deep spring hole across and up into the lake arm right most corner. bass and trout hide there.  530-887-8649 at work 8:30 ish till 5pm. senko's, deep divers and perch 3" or so get the spotted bass. troll for trout off points in deep water early

Thanks, I'll head out in a while here and can stay around to hook up if you want and make a day of it (checked with family and all clear since ladies are shopping and sons working today). I brought just bass stuff so that's what I'll fish for!! So far thinking of launching at Orchard Springs Campground since only 6.5 miles (20 mins) from where I'm staying, but I'll look up the green horn access and stuff you mentioned above! Thanks again!!

ROLLINS is a fun little lake. I'd chose that place over Collins. Collins did get a double plant last week though.

Thanks all for the advice!! Enjoyed the day after launching at Greenhorn Campground Ramp which was nice!! Traffic got heavy quickly as expected for the July 4th weekend with boats and watercraft everywhere! Paddled and checked out the lake! Managed 1 hook up and lost it unfortunately halfway to the kayak, so tried to fish that corner more since fish were on it, but all the boats had it so choppy that I ended up moving on!

The sandbar was ~3' deep and the spring hole had a couple pontoons, a ski, parked with swimming and jumping in the water with a rope swing they had set up so gave it a try but not for long, Thanks again for the info on launch and fishing!!
