Pt Sur looks like a good place to fishing. Does anyone know launch places  around Point Sur?  I found this beach which seems doable, but would like to hear from people knowing the area well.

This is another place (Swiss Canyon Creek), nearby Pt Sur and it seems launchable.

Pointers are welcome.

When Chuck and I drove down, Pt. Sur seemed to be fenced off.  I don't think there is public access to the beach.

If anyone knows otherwise, please advise.  Looks like a easy launch.

Pt Sur is inaccessable to citizens. You can arrange to tour the lighthouse though...
And Swiss canyon Ck is on private property. Keep driving another mile south on HWY 1 and launch at Andrew Molera SP. The hike down to the beach would probably suck with a yak on your back. There is free parking just before the park entrance mon the shoulder on the right. Look for the fire road and gate. WAlk down that road and you'll hit the beach. The north end is somewhat protected, depending on swell direction---SW swell is a no go. I was there Saturday and it was SO FLAT. Killer fishing too!

I'd be down to go to Andrew Molera. Is it uphill coming back? I do have the pimp kayak cart now so I'm hoping it won't be too bad.

long long trail at molera. I have been down there to surf a few times over the years (surf not that good).

but that would be the way to go. there is a pullout and a cattle gate before the parking lot and camping area.

I'd park there and bust out the wheels and begin the long hike down. it's fairly flat, but long and there are some narrow areas that would be a pain. it's probably a 30 minute walk at least. two people to allow for portable over bad sections of the trail would be good.

I'd launch in the cove and paddle north.

I have also surfed the pt sur beach. you have to trespass to do it. scary on about 12 counts, including the 2 shark attacks there in the 1970's. there is no way to get a kayak in there, which sucks because I agree the launch in the lee of the point would be cake.

I saw a boat fishing the kelp just south of pt sur and north of molera last weekend. I'm sure the fishing is good, looks to be cabezon city.

Matt's research is posted here:

Another site that might be interesting to explore is Point Sur. The south side is protected from a NW swell, and has some nice kelp beds that hold some large vermillions at its edge in 70ft. I dove there a couple weeks ago and it was by far the fishiest place I have ever seen underwater in the monterey area. One diver saw a 15+ pound yelloweye rockcod (protected).  If you look at Google Maps/Earth, it looks like one could launch a kayak off the lighthouse road (regulations?). The nearest campground is 1mi. to the south. Regardless, the quality of the fishing coupled with the postcard beauty of the site has me interested.

it is about 1 mile walk from Molera parking lot to the beach. It is pretty long and with one section of sand. Are other paths shorter? I would guess they are likely to be close to 1 mile.

What is the source of the graphic you posted?

Always looking for better and easier to understand data.  Thanks.
