Hi all,

Looking to head out with a buddy for our first kayak fishing trip up here in the bay area and wanted some advice on a good spot for beginners to go. Mainly looking for advice on places we can go where we have a lower chance of getting ourselves into rough situations, although any advice for what to go after is appreciated as well :)

My thinking is that the bay would be a bit more predictable than the ocean, but just want to make sure we don't end up in a notoriously tough spot.

We both have experience kayaking and fishing in Southern California, so not completely new but definitely new to bay area fishing.  Not too picky on the type of fish at this point, just trying to get the feet wet and have a good time!

Thanks for any advice!

You can try Alameda Rock Wall (ARW) or Paradise for halibuts. RGC season does not open for 2 more weeks,

Monterey would be my choice.  You can launch from the Coast Guard wharf ramp or the regular launch ramp by Fishermans Wharf (boat harbor) & make the paddle out along the kelp bed towards the Monterey Bay aquarium.  Watch out for the MLPA zones (no fish zones).  Just watch the wind forecast.  Good spots to fish along the rocks of the jetty by the C.G. launch.  Ling, Cab's & R.F. along the rocks.
