HB has made thru hull trans for a long time for DI.

The 'ducer with the 597 is long and skinny.  It doesn't fit in all transducer scupper holes.  For instance it doesn't fit in an Ultra 4.7, but curiously fits in an Ultra 4.3.

Do you happen to know if HB makes scupper transducers for the Humminbird 597ci HD DI GPS combo?

Not that I know of and I have one of those units and have had to resort in in-hull mounting.  But it may be time to check again and see if they have anything in the new product lines that may be compatible.

I thought that for the down imaging to work on the 597 you have to use a in the water transducer?

The other transducer mentioned earlier is actually the transom-mount version (same as the one that comes with the FF), but they provide epoxy instead of a transom bracket. So it sounds like you can mount the transom-mount transducer inside the hull instead of buying the specific "in-hull" transducer.
