I went through the f&w pdf looking for specifics about shore fishing regs and came up blank, put it down to age and impatience

What I wondering is basics for example casting for stripers do you have to remove the treble hooks and replace with singles? Same with perch I guess, just trying to figure out what’s allowed as far as hooks

The only thing I was able to see was it looks like you can fish from shore year round

This’ll be my first fishing license in maybe 6 years so want to know what’s up before I get out

Trebel hook is considered a single hook by the regulations

I don't like trebles hard to remove from a fish you want to release and harder to remove from your hand or whatever part of you body you might accidently stick with it.
**** a bunch of that.

I don't know of any restrictions which are specific to shore anglers. The same regs apply for shore fishing as from a kayak or boat, with one exception: Shore based anglers are NOT subject to the rockfish or sheephead season requirements, nor the requirement to have a descending device when fishing for rockfish. Other than that the regulations are pretty much the same.

Most regulations depend on which fish you're targeting.

If you're going for stripers and perch, I'm assuming you're in the bay area. These are a few of the regs which would be most likely to apply to you:

General regs:
Minimum 18" for stripers, limit 2
Minimum 10.5" for red-tail perch
When targeting rockfish or when rockfish in possession, max 1 line with 2 hooks. There's more regulation on quantity, size, type that get fairly detailed so if you're targeting rockfish I recommend you just check that section of the source material directly.

SF bay specific regs:
Max one line in SF bay with up to 3 hooks (exception from public piers where 2 lines are allowed)
Perch in SF bay are closed in the bay Apr 1 - July 31.
Only rock crabs can be kept if snaring, dungies closed year round

As Tsuri said, the trebles are specifically stated to count as one hook in the regulations. I've heard some folks saying they got a ticket using a stinger rig (one circle hook + one treble) for stripers in San Pablo bay, but the regs don't seem to support that. Might be a misinterpretation of the regs or might be a fisherman's tale

I started my fishing career with Shore fishing, and I never caught anything. I had more luck catching fish from the rocks(Perch and Rockfish) Besides the Striper length requirement, there aren't too many regulations from Shore fishing.

Thanks for all the inputs

Main thing I was wondering about is hook restrictions and whether all my old striper lures with 2 trebles will be legal from shore

All my striper fishing was decades ago casting shoreward from back of the surf along the local coast. All my shore fishing was steelhead and salmon on nor cal and Oregon rivers

The 18” minimum for stripers is interesting re back in the 80s I doubt I took any home that were under 15-20lbs maybe a few in the low teens. Last one I caught was from kayak at LM I think around 15 lbs, that would be ~10-12 years back. I don’t remember ever catching anything smaller so they must be on the decline

I won’t be fishing sf bay re I worked in that cesspool a lot of years and don’t eat anything that hangs around long enough to up my toxin levels

Just found in my stash a couple of casting rod/reel setups one medium and one light that should work for ocean so I might be good to go

I’m also thinking fly but my shad setup that would’ve worked has vanished
