Thank you Antonio.  I just want to make sure I picked the edible one. If you go out again to HMB and don't mind, I would like to give it ago with my kids. Thanks.

It depends where you are, but I always check the shellfish advisory hotline for biotoxin updates (510-412-4643, for all of CA). Warnings pop up periodically in some places even in the winter. Serious poison, esp for kids. I take my kids out frequently for mussels while crabbing, so I just make checking the hotline part of the routine.

I also like the 2-3" mussels for eating and leave the big ones to make more babies. A couple places I go they get as big as beer bottles, but who knows how old they are or how much hazmat they may have accumulated.

Thanks fish!

When people post HMB up here they mean Humboldt Bay near Eureka CA but I think you are somewhere else- Where is your HMB?

Don't think you want to eat the ones from Humbolt Bay definitely Trinidad is much better  :smt044

Beer bottle size is too big :smt005.

I was reading the other day that in inner Tamales and several other places that seemed like it would be ok, these shellfish can still poison you, even when in season. The symptoms start with tingling lips and can lead to paralization (dang cant seem to spell this) and loss of the ability to breath. Never had this issue but I was surprised when I read it.

They sure taste great! I always seem to forget to bring a scale  :smt012.

Thanks for the post!

Great trip, Antonio.  Way to get the boys on it - they're getting big!  They'll have a good chance at an ab at Shelter Cove with those great tides.   :smt001
