Maybe it was Best that I was thinking of rather than Service Merchandise .... though to DO remember S.M. as well.  The conveyor belt sounds familiar along with filling out a slip.  Bought my first leatherman that way.

I think SM purchased BEST at some point (or the other way around).

I've got a 7.5HP outboard from the 60s that says Montgomery Wards on the side of it. It might also be the one with Ted Williams name on it. Collectors item?  :smt044

Ted Willams endorsed Sears Roebuck & Co. sporting goods. Just one month ago I sold my 40 year old, chopped glass, 12 foot long 'Gamefisher' for $1.00, wasn't worth much more, given its condition. I paid $120.00 for it new. The same day I unloaded a 30 year old Bayliner Capri Cuddy that one, no longer had any value. Until this year I had kept the license up to date.
