Hey EWB

For hiking or backpacking I always went with Vasque and for pavement/light hiking I love the Ecco Track, both come in Gor Tex. Vasque stuff seemed stiffer but not silly stiff and the Eccos are very soft with an air sole.

The main issue with the Ecco's is that I seem to kill a pair every year and at that rate the price tends to add up (going on my 3ed or 4th pair at this point). That seems to be the trade off, soft/comfortable=short life.

My goto camping/hiking boot has been Vasque for the last 15years. I wore out my first pair, and seriously thought about bringing them to a boot repair place.  (The sole came off of the heel on one boot after 10years) The boot was still waterproof!  What changed my mind to get a pair was the tread on the soles was worn out.
Vasque are not cheap though.  Current pair ran me $183 5 years ago.

I'm hard on shoes, I starting wearing keen and they really last. I have a pair of Shasta WP (water proof) that I have been wearing for about 3 years, still in amazing shape and my feet do not get wet and I hike a lot. I also have a pair of Keen Water Sandals and a pair of Keen Oxfords that I wear for work, I'm a chef. Thinking about it, right now I only wear Keen. I highly recommend!

For hiking and off-pavement, I have been really happy with Vasque Clarions, very dry. I used them for work, too - construction and founfcthey did well on residential but not as well on commercial (too much psvement /concrete) as the sole tread wore fairly quickly.

I'm interested in MBP's German boots, gonna check those out!
I've been sold on Vasquez for years, mine kept my feet warm and dry all weekend up there, and I like hiking right up the creeks and well our camp...I was wet from my waist up.

Don't waste your money.  I've tried it on shoes, hats, gloves, etc.  It wears off incredibly fast, especially walking in wet grass.  Luckily I saved my receipt and Home Depot gave me a refund.

Have you ever seen or tried this stuff?

I have tried it on my boots. It works well. It slightly discolored my boot and wore off after a while, but repelled water for quite some time.

I actually have the non gore tex moab and like them are the gore tex ones really waterproof in your exp?

Yes, the gore tex Moabs are waterproof.  I use them for day hikes and general rainy day wear (puddles, shallow creek crossings, wet brush, etc); however, I've never used them for prolonged emersion (ie walking ankle deep up/down a creek).  I don't know if I'd trust them in the backcountry simply because they're too short.  Danners though, no problems and if they ever start to leak, I'd send 'em back for repair.

My only real long term experience is with Zamberlan & vasque Clarions. Really happy with both pairs.
For the sloppy stuff I've got some older Xtra tuffs, but I hear the "newer" boots by them are inferior quality.

I agree! I go Redwings all the way!
The most important thing is to find the bootmaker that fits your foot. I have a wide foot with mid arch, and the redwings feel great, and i can wear them hard, and know that just about every part of the boot is replaceable!

Danners are more for a narrow heel and high arch.

+1 for keen!
I have wide stubby feet & they fit me pretty well.
Pretty light & comfortable but they last quite a bit. The price isn't too crazy either.
Highly recommended!

Right now Keen has the Siskiyou WP on sale for 59.94, that includes tax and shipping, a great deal, half off. I just bought a pair. I love the pair I have.

For heavyduty bush work, I used to wear Matterhorns (carried over from the Army).  Now, I wear Danners.  They're the last heavy boots I'll ever buy because they have a program where you can send them ba,ck to be refurbished for less than a pair of new mboots.

+1 on the Danners.  They fit my wide feet too!
