Hey Guys,

I might be able to take this Friday off (or Sat) & wanted to try Stillwater South for the very 1st time.
The weather seems okay (alright!? = wind~10mph & NW swell 3-5ft).

Anybody around to show me the ropes?

Any tips welcome (Parking/loading, launch, & esp. Non-fishing zone info.)

Thanks!

Naoaki

I can't make it Naoki but hope you have a great time!

When I was there on Sunday they were using some of the hedgerow parking spots to house some construction equipment and portapotties (looks like they are getting set up for an event).

There were still spots to park in there, and there is ALWAYS room to park up by the tennis courts and/or Spa.

You can just unload all your stuff right at the beach and move your car. No biggie.

Some guy on Sunday left his truck in the main parking spots reserved for the members by the pier and the manager called the tow truck on him. They saw us park where we were meant to and came over and said thank you very much and that they really appreciated us following the rules.

I have attached some maps showing where to park for you.

For fishing....you can try off the deep side of the pinnacle right out at the front of the cove, or anywhere up north and outside of the cove. Fish edge of kelp and look for high spots etc. If it is snotty, there are still good fish to be caught inside the cove, or out front of the big island....good structure there, and stays generally calm in all but the roughest seas.

Here is the forecast I use for that area:

Any other questions, just let me know.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

ps...non fishing zone would be the carmel pinnacles SMR....here is a map showing where it is:  http://www.dfg.ca.gov/marine/images/mpamaps/carmel.jpg

Hook and line and spearing for finfish is all good inside the carmel bay SMCA but can't take any inverts, so if you pull up and octopus you gotta let him go unless you are north of pescadero point outside the SMCA

Yep, golf tournament this weekend:

I'll call the Beach & Tennis Club phone tomorrow to see what's up. I'm planning on Saturday. As Big Jim says, you can always park over by the courts.

If you're gonna be down in the Monterey Area, you might wanna hit up Bushy's Tournament in Santa Cruz on Sunday too; you never know, you might be the next "Sactown Boy" to win a kayak!!!!! :smt007

No dice at SWS this week: They've closed coastal access thru Sunday due to the tournament. They have another one in mid Nov & then again in Feb of next year.

Looks like Pillar Point by the old pier again!

I read somewhere on the forum that you can park and launch from Carmel beach short paddle to SWS.

Wish I could join you tomorrow Naoaki. The forecast looks decent. And the lingcod bite s/b great. I predict you will catch many big lings, especially if you go outside the main cove and fish a 6" scampi on a 3oz head in 50-70fow.
