What good health care plans and providers are out there? I've always used Kaiser, but am less and less impressed with their services lately.
I pay monthly premiums out of pocket, not through an employer. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Currently on Anthem Blue Cross through my employer and it is ok. But I used to have Blue Shield that I paid for out of pocket...it was about $150/month for just myself (not bad considering I currently pay $450/month for family coverage).
Whatever you get, avoid SeeChange Health...they were horrible!

You would think that for how much I pay for myself and my wife/three kids, my insurance company would be sending me roses every week, as it is, they don't even send lube.... :smt012
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

I use Kaiser Walnut Creek, Shadelands (also walnut creek) and Martinez.  After being Kaiser for over 30 years and listening to other people talk about other plans I gotta rate my Kaiser experiences as tops. Not that other outfits are not as good, just that they all seem pretty much the same, or maybe I've just never heard of better.

I really like the all inclusive services, I've seen my GP, a dermatologist, a head and neck surgeon, and a plastic surgeon all in a 2 week period and they're all talking to each other and can see my entire history at the touch of a mouse.  Melanoma, found, cut out and waiting for the biopsy.

My GF has Kaiser as well and frequents the Pleasanton area offices and she's extremely satisifed as well.

I do know that which Kaiser facility you frequent does matter, as they operate differently and sometimes don't even seem to be the same outfit, (as I gather from listening to others).

They took care of my Mom like gold til she passed and they're doing the same with my 87 yr old Dad.

If I sound like a Kaiser fan I am.  They've definetly had their issues over the years but I got nothing to complain about in the last 10.

Good luck in your research.

Well you might need something to bite down on now... because its about to/going to get worse
In some cases astronomically worse

Thanks for the tips. Yeah after a little research I'm beginning to think that across the board, prices are pretty similar for health care...

Might as well visit Covered California and start comparing plans: https://www.coveredca.com/

I would second Dale's endorsement of Kaiser. There is excellent interconnection between departments, at least at the Santa Rosa facility.

Having been self employed almost all of my working life my best birthday ever was a few years back when I turned 65 and Medicare kicked in. Eventually ACA, or Obama care will stumble into an effective workability. Remember what was said at the onset of Medicare. I believe Reagan asserted that it would ruin the nation. Over time it has proved to be essential in helping to provide health services to older citizens.

And in some cases they are going down.  Mine stayed the same and my friends who signed up for the ACA went down big time.

But then the insurance companies have been raising the prices for years prior to the ACA.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

The best health plan is to take care of yourself as in eat more vegetables than meat and exercise.  If you smoke, drink to excess, and eat junk, your health plan won't do you any good.  I know I am being simple minded and will be criticized for this post, but do those things that will enhance your health.  Genetics plays a big part also.  Having said that, Kaiser is a great plan, but you need to be your own advocate.
