That's what I'm afraid of :smt012

When I first started hitting the river we used homemade paddles that were made from cut down stop signs and aluminum tubing, mainly because of the punishment it received from banging the bottom in shallow areas. I'm starting to think that wasn't such a bad idea.
I'll build one and post some pics for approval and suggestions

I've seen extensions used in between the two paddle halves. Might give you the length and the ability to return to a shorter paddle when desired... Might have to make your own for the paddle you have. If it is a common paddle... Make and market your modification :smt003 http://www.nrs.com/product/1370/carlisle-oar-shaft-extender

Glassing the blade larger shouldn't be too hard.... Good luck and post pictures
How about this one? Group buy to make min order? Dan?

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Eric another blade to look at is the Swift Skookum. It has the largest surface area of any high angle paddle and it comes in long shafts.

Yes. I use on for my Coosa for the same reasons. It has a ton of catch and power in moving water.
