Return to the Roots: THE ORIGINAL Kayak Connection Derby Santa Cruz 9/29

   Big thanks to all those who put on that great BBQ afterwards too. !    This was a fantastic get together.

    Had a blast fishing with you guys too.      

I'll let the winner tell his story but lets just say his new kayak made back to Sacramento safely.

Thanks to Kayak Connection for putting this on and congratulations to the winners.

I was on the water by about 6:15, fished until about noon. The weather was fantastic, and it was great to see so many kayakers out there.

For me, the fishing was kinda slow---a handful of rockfish and 2 lingcod (one ling was just barely undersized and one just barely over). I'd gone out on Monday and found a fishy-looking spot  between lighthouse point and natural bridges, so I spent most of my time in that area. For some reason, I was feeling pretty lousy afterwards, so I had to skip the the lunch.

Here's a short video---not much to it, just the early morning launch (that's Big Jim passing me by), my best rockfish and the 2 lingcod.

 We missed you at the BBQ.  Hope you are feeling better.

Ricci , I thought your town has changed names. Are guys now the ShaqCrew as in Shaqramento.   lol
