Blue... I'm just curious.  Why do you prefer trolling versus mooching for salmon?
I love mooching I just did it for so many years I needed a change

and speaking of so many years it gets harder to stay in shape, trolling 2lbs for 8hrs or so is a good solid workout and there's no deli close by

Those fish are getting dangerously close to Moss, still on the deep side
I might try one of those other beaches

Seabreeze that's a sandy beach?

I believe Marina SB is the beach off of the Reservation Rd. exit on the way down to Monterey.  The beach is sandy but steep as heck.  Hauling your kayak and gear back to the parking lot would be brutal.

Like he said, yes, it's sand but.................

It was a beautiful morning.  Work is such a bother!  I didn't get down there until later.

And here are the pictures.  I would say that Marina was launchable today....but not for anyone not pushing the edge.  This is a very steep beach.  When I was there today most of the outside break wasn't breaking.  The hitch is that the beach is steep so to get even beyond the beach break you will have to make a rapid "get on" and get paddling.  That swell is not to be ignored either.  Good technique would get you out today.  And if you are okay with a body surf landing upon return, you will be okay if conditions turn typical by the time you return.

Refer to Jim and Ed's post of a few weeks ago for another view.

You can park where I took the picture from.  The lot overlooks the water.  The same beach is used as a hang glider launch because it is so steep.....walkable but steep.  There are lots of rip currents so I believe that is why this isn't as popular a surfing beach as some others.....really broken up wave patterns.  And the beach break.

I get tired just walking up that hill after a long day, it would be rough hauling a yak up it.

no marina state beach isnt the one with the nickname mortuary beach
mortuary beach is farther down the 1 (just south of carmel right before point lobos) also known as monestary beach.  (they call it mortuary beach cause more divers etc die there every year than anywhere else around.  its a hard beach to launch a yak at  =P  fun though.  also if you carry your boat to the far south end you can launch in most conditions behind the rocks there.  the middle of the beach you have to uhh time it just right.  I tend to end up flipping atleast once going out or coming in there

also be careful fishing the south end.  make sure you check the pt lobos boundrys bfor you start

the easiest launch in carmel bay is probably stillwater cove (but you have to pay pebble beach company to get out there)  I usually launch on carmel river state beach. (park and haul your boat down to the north end of the beach and you can launch behind some rocks that usually isnt too bad.
