Well, I have it on good authority that they pull harder than just about anything, and they taste so darn good.
 I wouldn't mind just one :smt002

If you wanted to CNR the thresher, I wouldn't use a rapala with treble hooks because you are likely to tail hook them. I would use bait and circle hooks. See attached brochure. They are good eating so if I did decide to target one it would be dinner fare. The only question is shark shield or no shark shield.  :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Haven't posted here in years.  Scott's right on.  Hi Scott.  One thing that is crucial is to get the shark on ice immediately.  I've hooked 3 Threshers & 1 60 lb Soupfin over the years.  The Thresher that we got on ice immediately tasted great, the others we weren't so quick with icing & they were so so.  If you get one, I would head in immediately & have big cooler & tons of ice ready & waiting.  It's a 2 person or more job.  By the time you fight it, land it, bring it in & steak it out you will be exhausted.

All the sharks I've hooked have been lucky.  I have gotten 3 on swimbaits & one on a Rapala CD-14 that I just let drift in 100 FOW.

Below was the story of the first one I got, about 8'+ from tip to tail, around 60-70 lbs., it was the best by far. I'll never forget it & I always carry a CD-14 with me on heavy line & throw it out there periodically just for the hell of it.

Story below, the drinking part I made up (writers embellishment) the rest of it's all true;

P.S.  I don't believe they're vulnerable.  They are commercially fished. DFG wouldn't let something that's threatened be commercially fished, they don't even specify a size limit on them. Hell, we're all vulnerable.

Every few years the pups come in thick near NB--Seacliff area. I remember about 6yrs ago when 2 dozen were caught from the cement boat in 1 day. Waiting for that to happen again so I can hit it in the yak!
I used to bring a big Mag Rap w/me OTW and troll it back from the beach hotel to MBK. But they pickup a lot of kelp & random seajunk, plus they cause a lot of drag, and I never want to go slow enough to work it effectively. So be prepared to go slower and take your time. You'll get something eventually.
