Why is Rock Cod season opening so late this year

I seem to recall last year Rock Cod seasonopened in May in the SF zone, this year not until June 1.  Did I miss somehting?

Not missing shit, I think last year it didn't open till the 12th. Not sure why the Monterey area gets open and closed so late but I guess they feel it has been raped and pilleaged enough to not save it that they need to protect the northern area more.

no, sf zone opened mid june( believe it was the 9th) last year, with this and next year opening on the first of june, because they couldnt get there sheeite together at DFW to do a june 1st opening, cameron

The Central Mgmt Area and south get longer seasons because there aren't any Yelloweye RF.
Areas north of Pigeon Pt have shorter seasons to minimize the incidental harvest of Yelloweye RF.
If the DFW determines that recreational anglers have met the max quota of 3 metric tons of Yelloweyes killed...they shut down the RF season for everyone (remember it happened a few yrs ago: emergency closure).

Okay I wondered about that.  Was thinking it opened last year in May for some reason.

Good news is rockfish season in Mendicino is extended to Sept 2nd this year. Enough time for a post Albion return
