Growing up with Quhogs,a nd little necks and blue crabs abundent back east, it was not hard to get a good catch of both with little effort.    I have been interested in trying this for a while, has anyone ever dropped crab traps than gone crabbing to kill time?  If so what is a good area?  What equipment did you bring, where did you park/launch?  how long did you soak, and what in the end was your results? One would think this would be a win win.  Thanks!

yes, we done it many times over the years at Lawson's Landing. The clamming always successful but the crabbing is not so good!  Below is the report of one of our trips last year:

So for that area a good negative tide, did you clam in what appears to be the shallows up at the mouth?  Interested in a hookup for this in a week or two (I have drill this weekend).  Did you crab in Tomales Bay or out in the open water?

It doesn't have to be negative tide (it'll give you more time and land to dig) to get the clams.  Below is the link to the calender for that area.  This weekend is good because the low tide occurs during the afternoon.  We dropped the crab pot around the pier in shallow water ( less than 20ft) because the current is very strong!

Did you have to pay to launch? This looks interesting.

Last year they charged us $8 per vehicle at the gate.  No launch fee for kayak (not sure about this year).

I've done crabbing at Doran then head to Lawson for clams
And  clam in the morning then crab doran after lunch.

There are no crabs at Lawson worth fighting the incoming or outgoing tide in my opinion :smt003

I can imagine that would be a fierce tide. Like sitting in the tube at Oyster Point...lol

The 27th and 28th of this month look good. I have a brand new stainless steel clam tube I need to break in asap. That puppy is going to slide into the mud like buttah. Let's do this!
