upper Kings id a white water river, lower is a style where people will float it in tubes n such in the summer as well as PB. Have not fished it personally in years. Some guys do OK near Lemoore in Kings county in yaks.

My cousins live up right next to that river & tube it every year.  Might have to look into that this year (hopefully).  Tube with a rod holder & drink holder & ice chest & umbrella & .......   :smt007

More info. Hope this helps. We used to slay the trout right under the dam.

the pics above are right under the Pine Flat dam/lake, upper is the Kings feeding into this lake. Dinkey creek feeds into the Kings in the upper area too. Lemoore is miles down stream from the pics and the end of the modern era Kings.

Check your regs if you go.  There are barbless areas between the dam and the HWY 180 crossing. when there is water, It is a nice run in the yak from 180 to Kelly's beach in Reedley.  Like all the rivers it's barely flowing these days.  I drive over it several times a week, and it's way low right now.

Good luck.

I did well on trout in the summer below the dam. Not much luck right at the dam (probably was fished out), but a little bit down the road there was a park/lot with plenty of bank access. Oddly enough, some good fish were caught in the midday sun on small Kastmasters. Not huge fish, but not dinks either. It's a nice, deep river right off the bank.
Thanks fish!

They have been trying to reestablish the lower Kings as a trophy trout fishery for a few years. So I know there are some quality holdovers in there. But I don't have much experience fishing the lower stretches. I damn near killed myself rafting down the upper kings like 8yrs ago. Very dangerous river. But the fishery is pretty cool, I've caught browns to 20" in the north fork, native rainbows to 18" above Camp 4.5, and smallmouth to 16" in the same area.

Epic Sunday afternoon tube floats from Goodfellow Ave down to Kelly's Beach.  Fishing was not even a consideration.  However I have nailed some nice large rainbows with Kastmasters just below the dam on weekdays.  Have also done well drifting salmon eggs (3-4) on a large hook in the river.below the dam.

I've camped and fished way upstream in the park.  The fish aren't big up there (generally) but there are a lot of them and the scenery is amazing.  One of the few places I've caught browns on dry flies...  Actually, maybe the only place?
