The wife had a doctors appointment this afternoon so I got to spend the end of the day with my girls.  I told her to take her time getting home and maybe even get dinner in town (our house is super rural).  Anyway,  she dined alone and was listening to other's conversations for entertainment.  One couple near her questioned the local Mahi Mahi.  We do not live in Hawaii but rather outside Paso Robles.   The server questioned the chef and the chef got pissed.   He said local could be 70 miles north or south of the local harbor, Morro Bay.  Anyway,  the chef said he believed the seafood vendor.  You would think a chef would have a little better idea of where the fish they serve comes from.  I loved the story and had to share it.

I remember reports of Dorado being caught up this way during the last El Nino.

Robert's in Paso Robles.

Like Cabeza said, for sure Costco.
Chadrock is right that we have seen them caught up here in the past  but I doubt we have seen anything commercially including during  El Nino.  More than likely it was raised in a pen in China.

This also ties into Hojo's post on the improper naming of fish.  Could have been Talapia and not even Mahi Mahi!

Oh they get dodos out of Morro for sure. Usually bycatch fishing for albies. And not in great enough numbers to market locally in Feb.

I always wondered about the local swordfish they serve at the Crows Nest in Santa Cruz.
