The Headwaters Kayak Fishing team started off as far fetched idea in late 2011. Victor (Vwool) and myself were sitting around the shop talking kayak fishing, and we were bouncing around ideas about how we would like to engauge with the sport. We wanted to do more than start a club or host events. We wanted to put together a group of knowledgeable guys who loved to fish, were safe and dependable, and passionate about the kayak fishing. So Victor and I decided to form a team of two and see where it would grow. A few months later we met Bill Becket (Bio_Bill) at the shop. He was our very first client for our guided fishing trips on the Moke. After that first trip Bill became a staple around the shop. His depth of knowledge about fishing rivers and streams is insane. After a few short weeks we decided to add Bill to the team. I have learned so much from him about fishing, and he is becoming a great kayaker in the process.

The next person to join the team was Adam Koons (Auburn Trout Dude/ ATD). Early last year I was not able to attend many events due to a busy spring at the shop. While I was working the store Victor and Bill were out hitting a bunch of tournaments. Every time Victor would come back to the store he would tell me about this guy Adam who wanted to be one the team. He would tell me what an awesome fisherman he was and that he was a really chill guy to be around (unless you compete in AOTY). But I was unsure. I did not want some new guy to join the team who I didn't know and who I had never fished with. The next event was Albion and thats when I finally got a chance to meet Adam face to face. He was more serious than I expected. He went to bed early and got up before the sun. He had a plan of where he wanted to fish and the moment the tourny started he was on his spot and fishing hard till the last minute. I realized right away that fishing was way more than a hobby for this guy. I was there when he came in that day from fishing. He had the biggest stringer of rockfish that I had ever seen. I realized on that trip what a methodical fisherman Adam was. Adam's passion for kayak fishing and wanting to share the sport was infectious. We hit it off after that, and he was on the team. He volunteered to do some talks at the shop followed up by on the water hookups. These clinics have become the backbone of the Headwaters fishing team, and now all members of the team are required to do a few of them throughout the year. For now that is the team. Myself, Victor, Bill and Adam. Between the four of us we have a lot of the basis covered.

Victor Woolworth is an expert Crab fisherman, and his fun loving personality inspires all who meet him. I consider Victor an excellent waterman and would paddle with him almost anywhere. I know he would be there to save my bacon.

Bill Becket is a fly fishing wizard with a ton of knowledge of our Valley Rivers. He and I will spend much of this winter and Spring hitting the Mokelumne, Merced, and Stanislaus fishing for trout and Steelhead in our Coosa's.

Adam Koons has made kayak fishing his life's science. If you ever have a question on how to fish for any species here in Northern Ca. He can tell you. I'm stoked to have him as a friend and resource.

Lastly Me Dan Arbuckle. I paddle way more than fish, even when I'm fishing, I'm always looking for a the next wave to surf. I love mixing my two passions. I'm super thankful to have the opportunity to be an asset and resource to the paddling community in Nor Cal. I'm also very thankful for the friends I've met along the way.

The Headwaters Fishing Team is all about pushing ourselves, pushing each other, and most importantly growing sport. We want to make it easy for more people to safely and easily enjoy fishing from their kayak. Again thanks for the support!

Team members Bio's are now up on the Headwaters website: http://www.headwaterskayak.com/headwaterskayak.com/Fishing_Team.html

This is exactly what drew me to the conclusion that I wanted to get the hot new kayak on the market, Jackson, for the GS7 Grand Prize from Dan.  I love the energy you put into the sport, Dan.  Way to go, Headwaters Fishing Team.   :smt001

It's tuff running a business.  It's also tuff finding good, knowledgeable people you can trust to help you.  Looks like you have done both and beaten the odds, Dan.  I don't know Bill, but the other guys I have met and shared water with and look forward to more days with Victor, Adam and you.  With all that you do, Headwaters and it's staff are never too busy to pitch in and help our veterans through our HOW activities.  I hope 2013 is gangbusters for you.
