I would go with a revo or adventure first and a P15 or T15 second. If money is not an issue get an AI and a Eddyline Carribean 14. I own a T15 but only use it for surf launch big game. If I could have only one kayak it would be the Adventure. It is big and fast and you can upgrade it to the full sail. Yes you can surf launch them although I prefer not to.

Besides paddling any kayak before buying, lift and carry them also. Hobies are heavy and the PA is a beast. I use my Eddyline for all fishing where the AI is not needed which for me is all freshwater fishing and rockfishing. As far sweet paddling yaks I would say:
1. Eddyline Carribean 14'
2. OK Prowler 15
3. WS Tarpon 16.0

My typical outing last at least 8 hours and usually starts with at least 1-2 hours against the current. Don't know if the peddles would help unless I actually had time to get used to them. Tried an Outback once, it was the worst experiance ever. It was obviously not ment for a full size adult male to peddle. With all this said, it is important to find a kayak that not only is comfortable for you, but also fits your physical condition. Some are more comfortable laying back and fishing, I prefer a more upright stance as I do a lot of pitching.
There are so many factors that go in to what makes the perfect kayak that there is really no one perfect kayak.
Only you can decide what is rite for you ....... Demo... Demo...Demo ... Than Demo again.

As competitive as I am I am agreeing with Murf.  I fished the salmon opener with him.  We did some 15 miles trolling and toward the end I was getting worn out.  The last mile or so I had to pull up the trolling gear and just concentrate on paddling.  That deep six makes a lot of drag!  And Murfman was just peddling along like nothing, 10 hours later.

So I got $10 on Murfman!

Your also free to take my outback or ride 135 if somebody wanted to demo with you Eric. And I'd never bet that a pedaled hobie would out last a paddle  yak.

The best thing I like about kayak fishing is the ability to stay fairly independent when it comes to launching, landing and getting the craft to and from the launch. Consider the future possibilities of wanting to roll down a narrow trail, carrying for distances, being able to load your craft on your vehicle alone and the freedom that comes with all that. My knees are trashed. I need to paddle. I pedaled Birds AI for a bit at CL and it is real fast. If I could go that route I'd have one fo sho.

Unless you have knee or back problems, Yes.

After paddling ~12 different kayaks, I can definitively say I go longer w/less effort in a Hobie.
But if that's the end game---catching fish without effort---then I'd simply get a boat.

Seems like there is a time & place for all types of kayaks. No way I'd run a river in my Hobie. Especially Eric's stretch of the SJ. I'd rather do it in a dang Scrambler.
So it all depends on where you're fishing and what you want to achieve personally. Oh, and it also depends on your general income. Because Hobies have a much higher price point than other brands.

I have a Hobie Outback and love it but eventually I'll need to add a OK Trident 15 to my fleet.  You can use a Hobie for most fishing applications but not all - similar to fishing rods.

Cons:
Last year, I was playing in the San Joaquin river but couldn't use my OB because it was too shallow.  Fishing in the kelp is a pain because you have to pull out your Mirage drive.  And if you catch a big fish like a WSB there is no easy way to store it on board and I'll probably have to drag it in on a fish clip - imagine trying to bring in a limit (I'll worry about it when the time comes  :smt044).

Pros:
Fishing in big swells or when it's windy isn't an issue for me.  Trolling is a breeze and I can do it all day.  IT'S A BEAST!!!

Hobie mirage kayaks come with a well plug and a paddle. Just insert plug into the drive well grab your paddle keep rudder up until out of the kelp. One out insert drive and wave goodbye.

Anthony
I tried that in my pa didn't go veryfar before I drop the drive back in.imo the pa is not something you want yo be paddling for any type of distance
