That frame is a mil surp ALICE frame.  There is also a shelf for carrying a radio like a PRC-57 (old school no longer in use).  That might be what you need.  I highly recomend finding a camping mat and cutting it to fit as a pad behind your back though as the ALICE frame has a tendency to wear on your back where the the two flat cross bars meet.  We used to sacrifice a OD Green sleeping pad to help give you some comfort with the load.  I don't recommend the M.O.L.L.E system frame as it is prone to break as it partially made of plastic.  the Alice can take a beating.

Some guys  were using one of those and the fire department told them not to use it and they got just a warning the first time after that they told them that they use it again they would get a fine and get arrested.
Fire codes in the Bay Area are no joke.

I agree.   I have one and also found it not to work as great as I had hoped.   Fire danger is a huge concern.   I was a volunteer firefighter for many years and on one call,  grass grass burned quite easily.

You will find on large weeds that the foliage will burn but you will leave the roots in tact and it will grow again.   On small weeds (less than 1") it can work great.  On other small weeds that are kind of clumpy you will find that it will not work at all.   I have strong feelings on the toxicity to the environment and to human health posed by herbicides,  You can see my facts/opinions here.   Best of luck!

We built a thrower in High School. It was a pack weed sprayer with an accelerant, and an airline from a compressor. I do not advise anyone trying it. Worked awesome, didn't think it would shoot a flame as far as it did, and caught a whole bunch of stuff on fire!

Weed burners on sale Harbor Freight $19.99.  Don't get the one with the igniter-----they always fail after a few uses.  Can't believe the FD in Bay area!  I have been using this all over the bay area, and the rest of CA to start my Weber, fireplace, campfires, burn cobwebs off the eaves, and kill weeds, and flame broil oysters on the half shell.  Start Your bar-be-cue with it and watch your neighbors freak out!

Oh yeah I forgot to thank Ron for the Brake clean tip.  Infested with Black widows here in Elk Grove.  Great idea, I'll make sure homeowners insurance is up to date!

Just hair spray on a spider will 'freeze' it right in it's tracks.  Sticky stuff and sets up quick.  I probably would not use a flame, might be the web burning goes up under the eves, then ignites something else like a wasp nest or something.  Wasp nests....  hmmmm..... I'm getting an idea!!!!

I used to use Pam and a ciggerette lighter on spider webs when I lived in South Carolina (Brown Recluse area).  It didn't have the range of brake cleaner.  I suspect spray ether would work as well.  We used to use that to set ovber sized tire beads.  Warn people first as it will scare the crap out of people.

My project is coming together!

My tank, from fellow NCKA'er Bill AKA FishingForTheCure, it's an aluminum propane tank 22" tall and about 6" diameter.  Holds a tad more than 1.5 gallons of liquid propane.

The back pack is a SCBA back pack.  Used to carry compressed air for going into mines and such, but most familiar as those packs worn by firemen entering a burning building.  I got this off e-bay for $25

And finally, the burner.  Red Dragon VT 2-23 SVC 100,000 BTU Weed Dragon Propane Vapor Torch Kit.

I'll have under $200 in the whole thing.  Complete kits are about $300 and not nearly as much fun as one I can put together on my own.

I've got about an acre of ground I want to control and have gone through about $100 a year in Round-Up each season.  I should have this thing pay for it self after 2 seasons when I will only need a few bucks a year for propane.

If your after weeds these are expensive but will pay for it's self fast. It's called a herbi distributor is Bubco.
They are some where around Lodi I think./ I worked for an AG equipment company.

These will make round up go about 10 times farther. so your 100.00 bill might be 25 .00 these are very effective.

@skipro3 round up is pricey, if your in the market again get the generic.  I buy wholesale at between $9-14/gallon. With the four pound per gallon concentration I use, one gallon makes 100 gallons of spray.    And Bill is right, the Herbi does a great job but you need to watch it near desired plants as the particles it creates are much smaller and have a tendency to drift off target.
