Mol, cutbait is probably okay.   but whole dead anchovies etc sound like a no no.

it's probably to head off somebody using whole live fish that could some how take root in the lake.
like some asian suckerfish or something. the ranger doesn't want to have to argue with the
person over whether it was alive or dead, so just all questionable fin-fish are dis-allowed.

period.

but cut bait should be cool.

I tried baby surf perch a week ago, I guess that was a no-no. Well, they looked perfect,
I didn't catch anything, but it sounds like that is not allowed. unless I cut them in half maybe.

They sell cured minnows @ rite-aid, but I'm guessing those are golden shiners?

knock 'em dead allen.

John I am pretty sure those regs are only for freshwater. Saltwater you can use any live bait you want. The only weirdness is if you use a small rockfish it technically counts against your limit.

yeah, I am talking freshwater.

I was using baby surf perch in lexington for trout,  :smt005.

came out of the surf perch I caught, I tossed 'em in a baggie and put 'em in the freezer.

took 'em out a week later and went trout trolling.

1.5" long, looked great behind a dodger. and apparently against the rules!

don't get us all confused bringing saltwater into it!

I disagree.

I know as a fact that it is illegal to use spotted bay bass as bait.  I know this because I knew a guy that would use them for bait for big halibut.  I called DFG about it and they said, unequivically, that this was a no no.

Who uses surf purch to catch trout.  John, sounds like you have too much time on your hands.

Well, you never know with me, that is true! I am mr. confusion. at least to the other guy,  :smt004.

Jason, I am just frugal with my by-catch. Btw, "too much time on my hands", that is rich,
coming from a guy with the summer off!  :smt005. I don't have cable that is one thing, and I'm trying to
catch up on this fishing thing so I have spent a lot of time learning on this site, but it's starting to taper off,
I pretty much know everything now,   :smt003

Bill, have you seen baby surf perch? I caught a momma, next thing I knew I had 30 1.5" surf perch in my cooler.
Oh well. So I decided to try to put them to use, return the biomass to the watery world.

Mol, I guess there is no end to DFG trivia, do they make a boardgame? They should!
