Has anybody ever camped @ Lake McClure? I see that there are 5 campgrounds on McClure/McSwain. Which one is the closest to water with RV hookups?
I'm thinking about a trip in a few weeks & dragging my parents out of camping retirement. (Although I'm not sure if a 26' Jayco counts as camping lol...but I know it'll make it easier to wrangle the kids and earn some legit camp WAF!)  :smt003
Thanks!

Horseshoe Bend is our favorite for family camping trips.  Distance to the water depends on the lake level - I've seen the launch ramp moved at least a quarter mile one time.  I don't remember if they have RV hookups.  I've heard Barrett Cove is also a good spot but haven't had the chance to check it out.  Hope you and the family have a great time!

Make sure to bring lures for the bass. The fall time has been awesome for me with the

spotted bass and the large mouth.

What's the bass fishing like in Mcswain? I can only find trout info. But it's interesting to see they have planted brookies, browns, and lots of planter bows. Their big derby was last wknd so they planted a ton of trout.

The bass fishing in Mcswain is poor to bad. Water is a bit too cold for them. McClure has good bass fishing and is about 15 minutes up the road. Honestly I've always done best at McSwain from the shore near the handicap dock. Green Power eggs on a sliding sinker. Rare to see a brown or Brookie anymore, it's probably been almost 10 years since they last planted them.

Trip was relatively successful, despite the rain on Friday. While trolling a kastmaster in the middle of the day, we hooked a huge trout on my son's batman rod...biggest trout I ever caught...IF we had landed it and IF I had hooked it LOL! The thing was like 2ft long and maybe 8lbs guesstimate. But it broke the dang reel and we tried to handline it into the Hobie. But as my good budee would say NO DICE!
We still caught plenty trout but nothin like that biggun. Not sure if a 15" trout is even worth entering in aoty haha.
