Hello all...

Thought I would throw this one out there in-case anyone can assist/direct me.  I'm in need of 2 garage doors (multi-leaf); used but not abused, ok.  Door frame opening measures 9' wide x 89" tall.  Garage door openers optional (can always add later).  We've used a tarp for a garage door for almost 25 years now and it's high time we put a couple doors on it!  I'd like matched doors, please.  Metal preferred.  Don;t have a lot to spend hence the reason to find used.  Figured someone out there might have an older one they replaced.  Color not a big deal; I can re-paint.

 Thanks!

Bill

I have one 9'x7'-9" high in Shelter Cove  white with barn hinge and pull wrought iron decorative hardware and silent opener with 2 remotes and elec beam safety.  Made to look llke barn door open from center.  Has top arch window and much insulation with all hardware included. It's broken down into pieces ready to move and install.  Would be a good time to paint before hardware gets put back on, though would not be necessary.  email me, Lyle

PM sent ... trying to picture it and how it opens?  What I don't want is a 1pc that opens vertically and I don't want a roll up like you find at a factory receiving dock.  A 5-6 piece roll-up would be ideal or possibly a swing open since the 2-car garage will not house cars.

Bill, you sure know a lot about garage doors for someone who has used a tarp for 25yrs!  :smt044

That's a really cool setup Teatotaller! I'm trying to convince my dad to build a garage at his house (lives off Seafoam Rd). I'll have to send him this pic to give him some ideas about a creative garage door...because that looks really cool man!

Hmmm ... I just happen to be looking for some garage doors as well.  I know nothing about them, nor do I can to do the work myself.  Any garage door installers here on NCKA that cover the South Bay?

Group Deal!

Just spoke with Jim's in Gilroy to get a rough quote.  Considering a roll up style now (industrial looking) to keep from having it roll overhead in the garage.

I'll second the request of "Any NCKA members work in this industry?"  I can install myself.  Wold even consider used, but working condition!

Make sure you have enough head room for the round roll industrial type.  And they aren't well insulated.  By the way, your opening is the perfect size for this door as you have five more inches in your opening than mine.  Sonny, sailfish, lives up your way and maybe he's comin up my way in the near future and can haul it back for you.  Good luck, Lyle

I'tt take all that into consideration.  Im not terriably worried about insulation since it is a workshop.  I have 8'-6" ceilings so I have about 13" above my header before the sheetrock.  Being that the track it would slide on is only about 15" off the wall, I loose about 9' of wall space to overhead cabinets.  If I look at a rollup, I gain back all the wall space and ceiling space above (where a traditional garage door would occupy in the open position).  I need to take a closer look this evening at my opening and space loss for both options.  A new roll up metal runs $650 installed but doesn't have the fine look of your door.

   Thanks again!

I don't think 13" is enough space for roll.  Here's what I did for my cabinets at the tea house in the first picture.  The second pic is the outside of the door.  Check with manufacturer or door dist. for a spec on clearance for the roll up portion.  I used quick turn brackets at the new construction, $25.00 on ebay, so that the door starts the opening turn in a horizontal motion backwards eliminating the upward swing so you can fit it in a 13" clearance top of opening to ceiling.
