I thought I announced this once already, but I guess the info hasn't gotten around to everyone because Allen and I occasionally get the "My AOTY score isn't adding up PM".

There's a known bug with the AOTY program that started when we went to the "your best 10 species" format.    The calculations are pretty complicated and I'm currently doing them all with database queries which evidently has its limits.  For while everything ran great until someone discovered the bug...

Turns out that when someone has points for two different top species catches that are identical, the program only counts the first.   For example, if you had a 30 inch salmon at 5 pts/in for 150 pts and a 20 inch rainbow trout at 7.5 pts/inch for 150 pts the program would only count one of those towards your total score and your score would show up as being 150 pts shy of what it should be.

I have tried to fix this and short of rewriting the entire scoring program or changing the rules back to where you had no choice of which 10 species to catch, I think we'll have to live with it for awhile.    Initially, this problem would occur once or twice a year, lately it's been almost once a week  (between the NWKA and NCKA AOTY programs).

I'm going to revisit the reprogramming option, but for now here is a solution that seems to work....

Simply change your catch length a tiny bit on those catches that are showing up as ties.    I suggest adding or subtracting 0.01 inches from one or both of your tied catches.   For example, using the salmon and trout from above, I would simply change the ling to 30.01 inches thus giving you 150.05 pts for the ling which no longer ties the 150 pt trout.   If at the end of the year the added fractions of a point here or there makes a real difference in your overall ranking the judges will take them into consideration.

Anyway, if you have any problems making the edits please let me know and I'll be happy to help you out.

I say your fix at the bottom just about does it. Adding that .01 to the length is not going to determine a winner 99.9 percent of the time. It has not been that close yet at least.

Mr.BigJim, you have 2 fish that are 157.5... yet, the total score is accurate.
So it seems it's working fine on DOTY.  ;)

I believe it's an issue of the "best of 10" calculation in AOTY.

Fuzz is correct.  This bug started occurring when we went to the 10 best species out of 20 format.  The DOTY doesn't have that rule in place so it works just fine.

We could switch AOTY to best 20 out of 20 species and the bug would also disappear there as well.  :smt077
