I think the coordinates I was given from my buddy are way off, Im going skiffing out of Capitola Sunday since I dont have everything I need to still make a trip on the salt with my yak, and the gps points he gave me that is suppose to be for mile reef 36 56 23n 122 02 59w that I thought was suppose to be for the reef right outside the mile bouy that is straight out from the Capitola pier seems to be way off. When I Google earth it or put it into my handheld it points me more toward an area on the Santa Cruz side. Are there two reefs with that name or are his wrong. If anyone can share the correct ones that would be much appreciated. You can PM it to me if you dont want the whole world to see. Last time we skiffed out there we spent more time trying to find the reefs than fishing it seemed.
Thanks in advance

There's a map right on the wall outside Capitola Boat and Bait with all the reefs shown on it...also, ask Ed if he still has the little handheld Garmin GPS units for rent...they come pre-programmed with all the reefs.

Good luck!

You can also ask them for a Reef Map and that has the coordinates for the Mile Buoy.  Good luck!  I'll be there, cruising around in my white hobie.

What do you need to yak fish?  You don't need much.  I can probably loan you some stuff for the day if you'd rather yak fish.

Well so far, I have my yak setup as follows. Obviously I have the yak LOL my tarpon120. Fishfinder/GPS combo, pool noodles,I bought leashes, have my gameclip,PFD, net and I just bought my VHF still trying to figure out how to use it though. Right now I think I just need a wetsuit and a gaff. Was going to buy it already but had to put a hold on buying stuff right now due to my wife losing most of her daycare clients over the last month. So we took a big hit on the income front right now. So I have to do my kids school shopping and stuff first. So hopefully I can buy my suit by the end of September. Thanks for the offer though. Plus I have still never launched in anything but fresh water yet so Im still a little scared to try a beach launch. And my buddies are excited about skiffing. Another time though.

It's the curse of a yaker in a skiff.i do the same thing.when I rent a skiff it seems I'm gunning to different spots more than I'm fishing.when I'm in my yak (hobie) I'm peddling and fishing.I catch m limit quicker.but finding gps numbers is hard I stop trying.I find m own.if you know someone that has a portable fish finder borrow it and find your own grounds then you can gun to them easily cause it's marked on your waypoints.
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Yeah we are bringing a portable finder to aid in the hunt. So hopefully we get into some fish. Thanks again all for the help.
