My friends and I are camping at Lake Don Pedro this weekend.  We're staying at flemming meadows camp site. I had luck fishing at night off the shores for cat fish the past years. I'm going to bring my revo this trip n hopefully try for some bass or whatever they have there that I could target. Does anyone has any tips on where to go, what to fish for, baits or lures?
Thanks
Phong

Phong,

The bass fishing there can be tough.  Generally you will need to cover quite a bit of water.  My suggestion is stick with what you know about fishing techniques.  The water is starting to warm there so the fish should be a little more proactive to feed.  The catfish should be good near the creeks.  Panfish should be good as well.  Maybe consider trolling with a diver for trout?

I'm trying to put together a day or weekend trip to Don Pedro in the next few weeks so let me know how it looks.  I have had no luck finding any fishing reports for that lake that are even remotely recent.

Only report I could find was from 1999 & one back a few years ago.  The Fresno Bee has weekly reports but they are "stories", not reliable, actual fishing reports.

There's definitely DP info out there on the web. Not to mention this site. Here's a report from last Feb when I fished there w/Dan, Al, and Garet. It's a great lake to camp & fish...I'm planning a family trip there in Aug.

I've been trying to check the "general" web outside of NCKA for weekly reports at D.P.  August was always the best time to camp there.  We did it nearly every year for at least a week at a time.

I fished it last week for bass and got 4 fish up to 2.5#
I was using lipless crankbait in the back of coves with some rock structure in it. Water condition was great. Don't know how much wind pedro has been getting lately. Have a great time up there.

I get a weekly email from Glory Hole at New Melones and at the bottom, the local guides include their reports from the other gold country lakes.  Below is Don Pedro's report.

Quote
Don Pedro

Clients this week were Ralph Smith, Dave Ferreira and Aaron Smith

They opted for the rainbows and king salmon, and they had great success by 10:15 filling their limits.  The trout hit spoons at depths from 17 to 35 feet and the kings hit the same spoons trolled at depths of 45 to 65 feet and the kings were stuffed with shad in their mouths out in open water. The kokanee can be caught in the same open waters at depths of 35 to 80 feet and hootchies, spinners and kokanee bugs will do the trick on the sockeyes Vances dodgers and are working well.

Thank you

Monte Smith

There are some decent reports on Monte Smiths Gold Country Fishing service website, i will be heading to DP friday evening for a multi-day camping trip at Mocasin Point campgrounds. A few years back we got some nice catfish in Mocasin creek night fishing. DP is also a major trout, salmon, and kokanee lake which is what i want to target during my upcoming trip. Plan on fishing DEEP (like 90 ft) in the main lake near jenkins hill. Anybody know a place to put in that will give me closer access to this area? too far to paddle from Mocasin Point, Dam launch may be a better option. Im hoping there is dirt raod access to the lakeshore around mid lake... anybody know anything about this or have any location tips for the salmonoids?
