Thanks for the input guys.  For the record, I am not wanting to heat the tent up while i am sleeping.  I am looking for that "damn I don't want to get out of this bag," take the chill off till I get the fire/grill/truck up and running.  The bigger devices are kind of a no go, as they are harder to strap to the back of a motorcycle, nor do they really fit in a three man tent.  That Zigo device looks interesting but they are currently availble.

Didnt you hear everything gives u cancer or some kind of desease do u eat the fish you catch? Prolly got mercury in them better watch out. If we were worried about every little thing we'd be at home in our bubbles not out in the wild or on a piece of plastic in the ocean just my 2 cents. ps plastic gives u cancer also.

Derrick, there are so many things I could say, BUT I'll just sit back and enjoy your comment with another shot of Maker's Mark!

Those heaters make me nervous Carbon monoxide makes you sleep too well, good down bag keeps you warm.

How can you not have elevated levels of CO in your system after spending a night in an enclosure with a device that burns propane? I guess if your tent has really good ventilation. Maybe keep the rain fly off?
Even if you don't die from it and wake up feeling fine, having  elevated levels of Carbon Monoxide can lead to heart disease, arrhythmias, and Neurological disorders. Most of what I just listed are after being exposed to high levels, being exposed to low levels is thought to have the same effects, but I dont think that has for sure been proven. I'm just more paranoid than most I suppose. Being in enclosed spaces with something that produces CO is risky if ya ask me. I'm not trying to knock these heaters, I think they might just be better for outdoor use.
I think I'd just wear a sweatsuit to bed with a thick pair of socks and have a good sleeping bag. And keep the rainfly on with the windows zipped up.

Hey partner,
My fishing buddy and I have camped in 10 degree weather with comfort using my small portable heater in a milk crate to keep it contained, in case of tipping.  Then to prevent hot spots while sleeping we attach a small fan to the roof of my tent to circulate the air.
A couple years later he bought a Big Buddy heater that takes a bottle or you can attach a 20lb tank( that we leave outside the tent and run the hose through the window.  It has a battery operated fan which works sweet.
The Big Buddy works well in a large tent like a 6 man or bigger, but would be uncomfortably hot in a small tent.
I understand that all heaters burn "clean" and don't leave any carbon monoxide. Don't know if I truly believe that although I never woke up feeling ill.  But for added insurance I bought a battery operated carbon monoxide detector and always have it in my tent when sleeping.  So far so good.
 Cheers

I have used a Coleman catalytic heater in my tent for the last 15 years. I fire it up for 5 minutes before crawling in the bag. I fire it up again before putting my pants on in the morning. Worth it's weight in gold camping in frigid Utah.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

I like the use of the CO2 detector and the milkcrate idea.  I think I may have one laying around.

I've thought of a similar setup for my little studio shed for the winter days. Maybe next winter I'll get around to it. For now I'm happy that spring is on the way!

the CO2 detector is a good idea for cheap insurance!

I've used my little Coleman catalytic heater down into the single digits hunting up in X-1, left it going on low all night long, probably twenty trips or so with no ill-effects.  Yet.  But my preference is to sleep outside, with a fire on one side and a pile of wood on the other.
