A couple of years ago GF and I went to Sequia/Kings Canyon.  Gorgeous place, but cold, it dropped to high 20's at night and for simple tent camping that made it bone chilling to get up in the morning.  I swore I wasn't doing that again until I had a propane heater (everything else is propane, so may as well stay with it).

So does any one own one, if so what do you like/dislike?

I have been looking at this one:  http://www.gasheaterstore.com/Mr-Heater-MH4B-3800-Btu-Little-Buddy-Indoor-Safe-Portable-Propane-Heater--F215100_p_6.html

BPS has it for $69, but they do have a price match policy, and they have $5 shipping.  I have a gift certificate from X-mas and haven't spent it yet.

I was looking at one like that as well. I have a miss match set of stuff. Some runs on the small cylinders other stuff on liquid. Switching it all over cylinders.

I had the exact same experience many years back. Couldn't fall asleep bc it was so friggin cold.  I drank from my bottle of water and choked on it bc it had chunks of ice.  Interested in hearing people's suggestions

I have used the larger "buddy heater" and the "Big Buddy".  They can be used with the five gallon cylinder or the small cylinders.  Has an O2  and kick over sensor that makes it safe for tents.  They have battery operated fans which really improve performance.  Have used them deer hunting in tents and trailers when it was down way below freezing.  They really make the cold bearable.  Have never used the
Little one but I bet it works great!

I just got the Buddy Heater (it was on sale at Big Five) but have not used it yet. Will have it with me at Clear Lake this weekend for a test run.

I have the Coleman Procat with built in fan, been using it trouble free for about 5 years.   Has a super wide base.

Only thing i didnt like about the one you linked to was the base, its tippy! Had one of those for a while too. Get the wider based model.

I finally broke down and got one of these Coleman Catalytic Heaters:

Andy has sworn by his for a long time, but my first time using it didn't work out so great.  For one I think you need to run it for a while for its first time before bringing it inside a tent because it gives off a funny smell and I woke up with a sore throat.  However it was really cold, so could have been from that too  :smt044  But the tent I was trying to heat with it was just too big, would have worked better in my 3 man tent.  I did run it all night, sletp about 4 feet away from it, and didn't die from it  :smt005

Mooch you going to use this in the tacoma? I finally got a camper shell and this looks like it would be great for that.

I can heat up a 3 man tent using a small single mantel lantern.  It easily adds 30 degrees to my dome tent that stands 4' high.

I've used the Coleman black cat in a tent in Oregon, but ended up knocking it over and burning a hole in the tent.  The next year I ended up burning a new hole in my tent with a propane lantern like the one skpro3 posted.

Now I use a buddy heater and a small piece of plywood to out it on.  That way if I tip it over, I don't burn the tent.  As an added benefit, the buddy heater kicks out way more heat.  I use it on my boat, camping, bank fishing, and even once when we had a four day power outage. It's a great heater, just keep striper slayer away from it...lol.  He set his pants on fire with it.

I have the little buddy heater posted in the original link. Picked it up after freezing my tail off two nights in a row at bodega bay.  Have only used it once in the tent but got a ton of use on it heating the boat to do fiberglass work.

The base is a pita, the propane cylinders don't fit in it very well and id like it if it was a bit more stable.  Other than that it kicked off alot of heat, shut off when it tipped and was efficient on gas.  Ill probably wind up buying the bigger buddy though.

I use the one from HF tools.  This connects to the BBQ tank, slam the whole thing in a milk crate for stability and  your good to go.  Heats up quick and is refillable

How can you not have elevated levels of CO in your system after spending a night in an enclosure with a device that burns propane? I guess if your tent has really good ventilation. Maybe keep the rain fly off?
Even if you don't die from it and wake up feeling fine, having  elevated levels of Carbon Monoxide can lead to heart disease, arrhythmias, and Neurological disorders. Most of what I just listed are after being exposed to high levels, being exposed to low levels is thought to have the same effects, but I dont think that has for sure been proven. I'm just more paranoid than most I suppose. Being in enclosed spaces with something that produces CO is risky if ya ask me. I'm not trying to knock these heaters, I think they might just be better for outdoor use.
I think I'd just wear a sweatsuit to bed with a thick pair of socks and have a good sleeping bag. And keep the rainfly on with the windows zipped up.
