I feel a debate coming on.  Waders are not even safe to use from shore?  Oh wait, he probably wasn't wearing a pfd.  Look at Andy causing all this trouble.

Sad loss still.  I feel for his family and friends.

awful tragedy.

I always wore my wetsuit when surf fishing, but that's because I didn't own waders.

lots of folks out there perching with the nice weather. Be safe out there.

RIP fellow percher. :smt010

So sad that had to happen, I always wore my 3mm neoprene waders when surf fishing to help you float, and kept a knife handy just in case. I pulled my buddy out of the surf one day who got hit by a sneak wave, very scary indeed. RIP my fellow fisherman.
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.

That's a sad story, I feel for family.

I've been thinking of using my pfd for river fishing cause I usually have to wade through a section of water that I have to tippy toe across cause the water level is just inches from the top of my waders. But, it's the only way to get to my honey hole. I'm only 5'4" and luckily I haven't had any close calls (knock on wood).

I did take my nephew out there once who was 11 but was 5'8" tall and the water level that day was 6" lower than normal so I figured it was ok to bring him. But, I forgot he was clumsy and of course after only 5 ft of wading across he goes swimming and fills up his waders to his wasteline. Sorry to say, but never again.

PFD on the river from now on I think. I'm not as young as I used to be.

Just saw this on the news! Dang that is tragic. RDM is a mellow beach too. I don't wade past my knees fishing the surf anymore...got knocked over about 4yrs ago in Marina and got soaked.
That tippy-toe spaceman feeling when you're crossing a river is familiar too. Took a swim in the Carmel about 10yrs ago and it was kinda scary.
But I still don't think waders = death.
Waders = use caution.

I wnet trout fishing the Chatooga in South Carolina  once and almost went in.  I was wearing a pair of Walmart medium grade neoprene waders with the rubber boots.  rubber boots I found out quickly are useless on rocks.
