As I drove by the Patagonia outlet store in Santa Cruz yesterday, I noticed a crowd and a Presidents Day Sale sign so I stopped in. SCORE!!!  :smt003
2 pr waders,wading/rain jacket, guide fishing vest, insulated wading pants, beanie, bucket hat, hoodie, zip jacket, thermal shirt and fleece jacket for my wife. I can't believe they had my size!
Retail value=$1628 Sale price=$572
My old leaky waders were beyond repair ( no more Orvis), and vest is tattered, so it's all justified. At least that's what I told my wife, and I'm sticking to it.  :smt044
There's a limited selection of fishing stuff, but lots of great clothing, all at 40% off the already discounted prices.
I think there's also an outlet in San Fran.

I was thinking more along the lines of this....

"It has allowed us to contribute to conservation organizations working on behalf of the world’s natural areas and wildlife, including the marine life in California’s coastal waters through the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA)."

"Similarly, the fishery management tools we have cannot restore the size and diversity of species that existed just a few decades ago. Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), however, have proven to be an effective tool for restoring this balance and improving overall ocean health"

That is a smokin deal Jim! Patagonia makes an excellent product. I've always coveted their waders (a fiend has some and they're really nice). But I didn't know about the company founder's anti-fishing philosophy. Bummer. Reading the article comments is painful lol.

Well, this post was meant only to make aware of a way for our brothers to save a few bucks, not a political statement.  And although I disagree with Yvon Choiunard's anti-fishing philosophy, I can't condemn the man for doing what he thinks is right for the enviorment. He just happens to be on the extreme side of this issue, just as others are on the other extreme.  We all know there a need for rules and restrictions, otherwise there would be many more species of marine life threatened or extinct.  Hopefully a common sense middle ground can be agreed upon. I much rather prefer species management  to MLPA's.

Yvon can then take his extremely overpriced articles and shove them into the chilean salmon farm waters where they will be coated with a toxic waste product that drifts to the bottom of the pens called excrement and rotted food.

Yeah I understand , didn't mean to drag down your thread either.  This topic came up on another board recently and I was pretty shocked at some of the accounts I read about yvon and the stink of hypocrisy surrounding patagonia supporting the whole mlpa thing.

This would probably be a good way to score some gear from em without giving them any profit.  That was a nice score :beer2

It's all good, and thanks for the article. I'll be reading more about this.
Anyway, it was a great deal on what I consider quality gear, and at those prices, there's definitely no profit involved. Hope to see you OTW.

Yvon is a pretty smart cookie he only sells FF gear, if he sold SW gear it would effect his sales.

Do you think this is more of a marketing ploy? The gear is for sale on his website also

Doubt there's any ploys, I think he's just hardcore into flyfishing so thats the direction his gear is designed and marketed.
