Hi Everyone,

I saw this on another website and thought that you should know but we were told that the new fishing license that DFG is issuing this year will turn black if placed in extreme heat.  They don't say what extreme is but it is like a store receipt that will turn black if place in the heat of a car.

Here is the posting of the topic:

Summer temps often hit the hundred-and-teens here, I have a feeling mine won't last long.  I took close up shots of the license w/ my cell phone camera...not sure if a warden would call that "in-possession" but it's better than nothing if the license gets nuked.

Mine was folded in thirds with the print inside , after my newb kayak swim , on third of it turned orange . It is still readable , F&G asked me about that when they checked us while sturgeon fishing on my aluminum last weekend . Think they like to patrol the delta , less work cruising around and pulling up to every boat on the water , checking licenses , fish , registration or anything else for that matter . Less work for more revenue , our state needs the money , not getting any of mine - at least for breaking the law .

when was the last time a warden asked you for a lic.?

I got checked OTW down south of Monterey on my last trip for RF season. It was a choppy windy day, and they still motored over to check our catch & asked to see our licenses. I thought it was funny, since in the swell & weather they couldn't get closer than about 25 feet. I think I could have help up a safeway receipt & they would have been none the wiser.

I know! I was glad to see they were out there.

I guess it depends a lot on where you fish. Because I encountered a F&G Warden while fishing about 10 times last year. Actually, it was probably more times than that. But I'd guess an average of 8 encounters per year for the last 10 years. I always try to be courteous & respectful because their job is pretty damn hard with very little reward. I'm usually glad to see them out there OTW or on the rocks or at the beach or by the river. It's admirable.
