Fuzz...just wanted to say again how cool those videos are... :smt007

Really dig how you point out that one fat Rockfish (a Kelpie I think?) and then follow him around a few boulders and THEN nail him!!!  :smt003

And in the other video you get the side view of the fish swimming and then BAM, shaft through the head!!!

 :smt003 :smt003 :smt003  :smt005

Extremely cool!!!!

Like a batter calling where he is gonna hit the homerun!!

 :smt003 :smt004

Thanks again for sharing!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

I'm curious as to know if there are exercises to help you hold your breath longer or to help improve your diving.
IMHO, freediving is primarily a mental endeavor.  The more you can control your anxiety, fears, excitement... the longer you can hold your breath.  It's a zen thing in how you approach diving.  I see many newer ab divers struggle with this.  They flounder on the surface... overweighted (or underweighted), panicked looks in their eyes, fighting with the kelp like it's Kraken, kicking like mad, gasping for air, etc.

Once you learn to relax and work with the ocean, rather than fighting it... a whole new world will open up to you.

There are a few breathing exercises you can do to get comfortable with holding your breath, but I have ADHD... & can't stay still long enough to do them.  Just focus on relaxed breathing & keeping calm.  Pretty much anything you do holding your breath will help (i.e. brushing teeth, watching tv, walking, etc.), but focus on your heart rate... and trying to keep it low.

Here's a thread with some good information:

dam, that is very cool!! they did look grey till your light hit them..

how deep do you usually find the Vermillion?
45-60ft seems like a sweet spot.  Once in a while, we'll find them a bit shallower, but the 45-60ft depths are more predictable.  In shallower, they seem more affected by swell & tend to retreat to depths when the swell picks up.

I'll believe it when I see it...  :smt003

Thanks Jim, much appreciated.

We really should've spliced the footage together, but got lazy.  Excited to try out some new ideas!
