I can't fish this weekend, but here's a tip for those who can:

I fished Thursday in Monterey, chasing after wsb. Launched at MBK, paddled to 100 fow directly out from the hotel. There was a small fleet, say eight to ten power boats out there, some of them commercial rod and reel guys. Fly lined squid, or drifting with a bit of weight. Here's the exciting part: I saw at least fifteen wsb boated, looking to be in the fifteen to thirty pound class. Alas, I didn't get one.

I was so close to boats that were consistently hooking up, but I just couldn't connect. If you go, you might find the onshore wind will help you drift from 120 feet to 80 feet, which should work fine. The fish aren't "hanging out", they are breezing through, so be patient. I saw more than a couple double headers. Early morning seemed best, the bite was really good from maybe 7:00 to 8:30.

If you go, and you get fish, I want to know about it. I may be able to get out there Monday, if the fish are still around!

We should post about it in every single forum...public reports, hookups, members reports, general fishing tips, classifieds....seriously wtf?!

If some of the commercial rod and reel fishermen weren't all over this action, I might pause for a moment, or even play this one close to the vest. But they are on it, and slaying em. So this is a chance for some of my brothers to have a memorable day fishing, and if you can get after them, I look forward to hearing about it.

I'm not sure how to take that last comment, sincere or otherwise.

No matter. I'm giving up the ghost.

Fish on!

Pat are you having a philosophical change of heart re:your NCKA brothers?
I see you've had no problem giving it up to the pb crowd over on WCH.
Seriously though.....when it's all up on USAFishing.com.....everybody & their 101yo grandma knows.
I'm all for the individual chosing to keep on the downlow or not. But no whining please.  :smt003
By the way.....Love you too Bro.  :smt008

Nothing personal Paul, I like you. I would've thought the same thing if anybody posted that, Mooch, Art, whoever. It just seemed like there were already 4 different posts in 4 different forums, and I felt frustrated like we should at least try to contain it to 1 discussion (in the members only section w/b appropriate). Crap now I sound like some sort of forum police lol. But after all, it is a fishing report right? Sorry for sounding for like such a jerk, Paul.
And Salty that other post you're thinking of didn't really say anything specific.  I  :smt008 NCKA long time!

Crap, I'm sorry Pat; I have to admit to being one of the culprits of posting in different forums of the same subject :P

We all know that you're a great friend who loves NCKA :) As for forum police, yeah you did sound like one earlier lol! But tbh, it's nice to have members police/direct us newbies on what to do and what not to do (etiquette).

Anyways, I hope all have fun this weekend!!

Yeah, it's all just premature seabassulation. Remember.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

You're forgiven for sounding like a jerk    :smt003

I don't want to get too deep into a discussion of how much info to give away, because it's an individual call.

But understand this:  there's a growing fleet of PBs that are on these fish, it's far from a secret spot, and the intent of my posting here is to perhaps get a few yakkers in on the hunt. Different circumstances, I would have a different approach.

Best regards and tight lines,

Paul

Thanks for the heads up Paul. I wished I was there this morning than working
over time here at work. I hope the WSB are still hanging around there next Saturday.

Jed, I hope that they'll be in the area for that long as well. With your last reply, it sounds that you may be heading down this way? :D Hope that you do so that we and others can hunt for them together!

If they're not around, then we can always hunt for some cabs & lings :)

uhhh yeah the cats out of the bag. Solsrf1/Mike and I hit it on Friday. There had to be 20-30 boats out there. I saw a few fish landed but none for Mike or I. I did manage some dabs for dinner (and AOTY points, hahah).

Great Report. I would love to get my hands on one. I am local angler but never fished for the WSB. Any tips on set ups/ bait, lures? Thanks all in advance.
