Since Tuesdays are my days off, I'm looking to fulfill my never ending desire to go kayak fishing lol!! Anyways, I have many great people here and always am looking for the opportunity to meet many more  :smt001

I believe that my friend Ryan will be joining me Tuesday, and am looking to see if others are planning to hit the waters Tuesday. Please let me know if anyone is planning to fish around Mon/SC counties, for I am willing to join you.

Right now, I'm torn between either going for the halis at NB/Capitola or do some ling hunting here at Stillwater/PG.

Hi Daniel,

Don't know if you remember me, but I met you and Ryan over the Forth of July weekend out on the pier (I have the yellow Tarpon 120). Anyway I can't make it out tomorrow, but wanted to pass this information along that might help in your decision.  I fished this past Friday and Saturday out in Capitola.

Friday I spent the morning fishing NB with no bites. The swell was down and conditions were great, but no fish. Around noon I moved out to deeper water 35'+ and caught a 24" Cabezon and nice rockfish. Both of these were caught near the old Sponge Bob.

Saturday I concentrated out in deeper water towards Pleasure Point. I caught an 8lb halibut (28"+), several smaller rockfish and a short ling with all the later being released. I also hooked a sealion that picked up my sardine and took about a quarter spool of my line before I was able to cut the line. I also had my bait raked twice (think my stinger feel out of the bait) and was happy to see the bite starting to pick up. The rockfish were caught mainly using a swimbait and homemade teaser fly.

In summary, if you do decide to head out to Capitola I would concentrate in deeper water (sardines were located starting at 25' of water) because that's where the bait starts and continues into deeper water. The Capitola fishing report catches also support heading more north west than NB. A commercial fisherman that I know that fishes the area also told me that the halibut bite has been very slow in the area and with a week of nicer weather might pick up. I would have included pictures, but I'm new to the site and don't know how to yet.

Hope this helps and good luck whichever direction you take.
Dean

check out today's capitolaboatandbait report. Things are looking good for out front in Santa Cruz.Great wind forecast for tomorrow on iwindsurf.com, but half the time the things wrong, going to be moderate anyway. I like afternoon fishing better , biorhythm thing, and I think the halibut bite better in the afternoon. It  has been my experience that the bite really turns on around sunset.
I'll probably be out in front of  lighthouse point late morning and hopefully into the afternoon.

Hi Jim,

It was nice meeting you and I'm sure we'll run into each other OTW. I'm going to try and upload the pictures of the halibut, cabezon and rockfish. If successful, please excuse the clutter around the cabezon and rockfish (my daugheters are the photographers and I basically get what I get as far as pictures go, it's something to work on). My wife has me clean the fish outside due to the mess I make where I can simply hose everything off.

Dean
