Davenport would be excellent for both crabs and rockfishright now.  The best crabbing is deep, though.  Most guys are putting their pots out at 160-220 feet of water.  that's a couple miles out.

Kayak anglers really need to make an informed choice to launch in that area this time of year.

Hi, Allen. Thanks for the info. I thought you are landloard of SC.  :smt007. Fishing at DPort should be fun then. But GW is scary. What devices can you share in terms of avoiding GWs or pretecting kayak anglers?

scallen is right, it's really just a matter of time before a GWS sees a kayak as a big rapala.

talk about top-water action!  :smt005

it might happen @ davenport, but those guys do not respect boundaries and over the years
they've even seen them right off the beach in capitola which is almost a city pond.

a lot of sightings towards lindamar last summer. just take a look at the shark research
website.

likewise, fatal attack in monterey many years back. all those seals in stillwater. that's
anchovy to the GWS.

There's really no where that is safe from a big GWS when you are kayak fishing in the
california ocean.

From what my very knowledgeable friend tells me, GWs can be in any ocean of the world at any time.  Thing is, around here we KNOW they are at the Ano Nuevo area during these months and the immediate area around Ano.  That's why I choose not to paddle out in that area this time of year.

Proabably could go out there every weekend without seeing anything or having anything bad happen, but why tempt fate?

I've surfed all winter at those breaks in the past, but being 1/2 mile out or more on the yak....just feels different and I'm not comfortable with it.  Plenty of other places to fish during those months.

Thanks for local knowledge of GWS. Info you share with us is great and makes a lot of sense.
