Hi BigRed,

I plan on being at the SC board walk at 7am Saturday to check the conditions and probably drive on to the wharf, just to see if anything is being caught there. IF the out- surge looks good, I'll fish. Then I'll continue to follow the road to check out all the possible access's to any beach on the way up to the Cement Ship or even further down as far as Sunset Beach. Then head home.

The whole trip should just take under six hour's. Approximately!

What kind of schedule are U holding?

Ugh, there goes my schedule for Saturday -- I'm on baby duty while my wife goes to work from 9-ish to 5-ish.

I guess I'll just go perching RIGHT NOW.   If anyone is listening, I'll be down by the concrete ship in Aptos.

Spent about 45 minutes at the beach between visiting the office and the gym (around 1:30PM).  Fished MORF rigged carolina on a light 8.5-foot pole with a tiny spinning reel.  This is a new setup I put together earlier this week and it is very nice and sensitive.

Anyway, caught a few just North/West of the concrete ship.  The one above was the largest but they were still fun on a rig rated for 4-6lbs.  Hooray!  First BSP of the new season for me!

For those of you who don't know but, like I do, live near a lot of state beaches, the state offers an annual parking pass which can save you $$.  It really makes a difference to me since now I can drop down to any one of the many Monterey Bay beaches for no incremental cash.

Alex, From the post, it is hard to tell what is your schedule, driving around SC ocean line? Are you going to fishing? I am thinking of rockfishing + crabbing combo in Daveport. Is it good place for the combo?

HI eyeatbay,

I haven't fished Davenport so I can't say if it's a good place to fish or not. I think Mooch had explored that area. Mooch if you like to respond to this question, I'm wondering too. But as far as my schedule for Saturday I'm just going to explore Santa Cruz and south of SC. I'm following the tide schedule for that day, so as long as I find the rite spot where I feel the conditions are rite, I'll fish.( Surf fishing)I have a couple of spots in mind where I've caught my limit of perch. Your more than welcome to join me if you like. Oh! I'll leave my apartment in Santa Clara, around 05:30 arriving in SC 06:15 and hopping to be on my way home by 13:00hrs. I have room for one if you decide to come along. you would just have to meet me some where in SC.

I know a few guys that have caught some nice halibut in Davenport over the past few years (including myself)....Stuart,Dave,Tony(kneetoe) and john/jmairey. I've seen the biggest starry flounder caught there as well (I forgot his name). Rockfish are abundant in around the 70 to 80 ft depth. Just keep an eye on the conditions - the wind can get ugly on a turn of a switch. Never tried for perch....but I'll be there this Sunday for about an hour (business meeting with Sean/Piscean in Bonny Doon) I'll have my perch gear with me.

Don't have any info on the crabbing - sorry!

I, too, have caught halibut off of DPort in about 60 feet of water -- straight off the landing.

I've seen halibut come in off the sand at Scott Creek, a short paddle North from the landing.  Rockfish and Lings are abundant off the rocks and kelpbeds between Scott creek and DPort landing.

Davenport would be excellent for both crabs and rockfishright now.  The best crabbing is deep, though.  Most guys are putting their pots out at 160-220 feet of water.  that's a couple miles out.

also, be very aware that Davenport is well within the raqnge of the Landlord.  GW's congregate at Ano Nuevo this time of year to feed on elephant seals and sea lions.  there are quite a few there right now.  Anglers on the Wild Wave witnessed a feeding event on Tuesday that featured 5 sharks from 11 ft to 20 ft (this last might be exaggerated a foot or two)

Early Fall had a few sightings near Davenport including a couple drift chutes destroyed.  Kayak anglers really need to make an informed choice to launch in that area this time of year.
