Read this this morning im glad the judge threw the book at him!!!!!!!!!  :smt013  Salinas man gets 3½ years for faking distress signals
The Monterey County Herald
Herald Staff Report
Posted: 06/16/2010 01:30:41 AM PDT
Updated: 06/16/2010 01:30:41 AM PDT

A Salinas man will spend the next three and a half years in federal prison for repeatedly playing hoaxes on the Coast Guard.
Kurtis Thorsted, 53, was also ordered to pay $102,298 in restitution for knowingly communicating false distress signals.

Thorsted pleaded guilty to making three mayday calls, but actually placed 51 false signals during a six-month period in 2008, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

In one of the calls, according to the statement, Thorsted reported that he was in a kayak off the coast of Santa Cruz and having difficulty getting to shore. He was neither in a kayak nor on the water at the time.

Thorsted was convicted of the same crime in 2004 and sentenced to two years in prison.

On Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Ronald Whyte found that Thorsted's most recent actions showed a conscious disregard for the lives of the officers who responded, that he was a public-safety risk, and that he deserved an aggravated sentence under federal guidelines.

"Broadcasting hoax mayday calls is illegal, dangerous and cannot be tolerated by emergency response agencies or the boating public," said Capt. Paul Gugg, commander of the Coast Guard's San Francisco sector. He noted that such unnecessary searches often cover broad areas during adverse conditions.

"These emergency responders risk their lives every time they launch," he said, "and while they are responding to false alarms, they are not available for true emergencies

elsewhere."
U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello said Thorsted's case illustrated the rigorous prosecution and serious consequences faced by people making false distress signals.

He'd already spent time in prison for the same offense prior?????????????

I don't get it, he must get a charge out of faking the distress calls? WTF?

He better never go out on the water after he gets out.

Same reason people fake 911 calls, report rapes that didn't happen, start fires, cut themselves, etc etc...

Daddy didn't love them.

Wonder if any of his fake distress calls involved a kayaker who masturbates at other boaters?

I can see it now,

Yeah, glad he got caught! But why did he do this? I can't understand it.
Maybe he was PO'd at the CC for some prior probs with them, still no rational reason though.

While we're on a$$holes here's another one...Stewart Resnick. Yeah, this Los Angeles billionaire wants the state to declare the striped bass a non native fish that endangers other fish species such as salmon and smelt. :smt044 Get this, he thinks that once he eradicates the striper, then he will be able to get all the delta water he wants to water his Kern county fruit orchards. Ain't that some shit??
