Good job on the hali. Is that acrylic paint on the yak?

It is actually testors enamel, like you would use on plastic models. Comes in a bunch of colors, I had some extra blue from some art pices I'm working on for a show next month.
(Quick plug: Davenport Gallery show July 1-31, I'll have at least 3 new fishing oriented pieces up; halibut, vermilion, and king salmon)
I did some designs with both paint and sharpie pen last season, to see which would hold up better. The sharpie goes on easy, but fades quickly and gets rubbed off. The paint will scratch off if it goes on too thick, but unless I was actively trying to scratch it off it held up well. This is the first time I've tried any color other than black so it's still a bit of an experiment. I certainly don't baby the boat (lots of sandy beach launches and the occasional cliff drop) so I'm curious how it will hold up.
My guess is that it will look great for a while then need to be retouched later. As for prep I just did an rubbing alcohol swipe to get any grease off.

WTG on the hali!!! I was admiring your artwork when we fished together a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was some Samoan shark repellent art.  :smt005 According to the Chinese feng shui, the dolphin protects humans from shark attack so you may want to paint one of those on the bow or on the bottom. Etienne painted the bottom of his boat with some art to ward off shark attack since they often attack from the bottom up. Good call pulling the plug on the Bean. Fishing is usually not that good there on the mixed swell.

Sean and I started the day up at the Bean at 6AM only to find a super low tide and a choppy 10KT NW, waves breaking over the pinnacles and what looked like a fast drift. Mike and a crew from NCKA were getting ready to launch at the lighthouse and paddle North, drifting back toward the launch past two usually productive reefs. Sean and I decided to head back to town and fish inshore reefs in SC.
The conditions inside the bay were much improved. As you can see in the pic, the sun was out and the wind was a mellow 5KT.
After an easy surf launch, we went to work dropping and casting swimbaits in lanes and holes in the kelp.I was stoked when my light Penn 5500 spinning outfit goes bendo and I have an epic, drag-ripping battle with a toad of a 21" cab. Not much later, Sean lands a sweet 27" hali on his light rod.He said it felt like getting his mojo back.We picked up a couple black and yellows, but the rf bite was relatively slow.I'm glad we made the call to go back into town.It was great to have a lazy day on the water and catching some nice fish was the icing on the cake.
