didnt know where to post this question so please move it as you seem fit!

does anyone know where i can and cannot land a zodiac with a gas engine on monterey / carmel beaches?

i am going to pop down there this weekend to take one out for a ride and wanted to know what the rules are for the public beaches down there.

i was planning to motor up and then just use the oars to land where it was calm kid of like how the pangueros do it in baja. boat is a 11 footer.

thanks!

Not sure on legalities but you might wanna land that sucker like a yak.....time your sets and gun in on the back of the last wave, cut engine and lift right before you hit the sand.

I think any beach that isn't a swim beach should be fine.  But if there is any chance of running down some kids on the landing, probably not a good place for it.  But, you have a motor!  So launching over in the marina by the CG Getty is a good choice.  I've also seen some people launch out of SWC with zodiacs and other gas powered boats.  You can also do the same in BigSur at a few of the beaches like Willow Creek.

Launch @ the Coast Guard Pier! Thats probably the only place besides the launch ramp at the wharf....

oh we'll definitely launch at the pier ramp and i am just hand rolling it in since i have no trailer but what about stopping off at lovers cove on the beach there?

i guess i'll just have to find a place that is not busy to land and drop my wife and baby off at then i will set off alone and motor to some kelp beds for some spearfishing.

any tips appreciated!

You can launch wherever you want bro. Seen lots of people launch from the beaches along PG, Carmel, and Big Sur. I don't think there are any specific restrictions about launching from beaches. There was a tandem of guys who used to always launch their zodiacs from Monastery beach, then use a portable winch to get them back up the steep beach. The best spot to launch a zodiac was at Limekiln, but that place has been closed for a long time now.

Before my yak fishing days, my buddy Russ and I used to launch his 14 foot aluminum boat out off Linda Mar. No one ever questioned us for doing so....BUT I don't think you can do this in Santa Cruz or Capitola. Might be different for every county...
