Sounds like you're good to go....I'd ditch that bow weight though.

Once you are out & paddling a bit you may find that that list is maybe over extensive. It will kinda depend on where/how you launch/fish.

I've never paddled a double SOT solo, so I'm not sure about the bow weight.
I doubt you'll need the spare PFD's. I've never lost mine while I was wearing it :smt002.

For the majority of my fishing/kayaking I find that simplification really helps. I do bring 2 rods most of the time now, but only 1 tackle tray if I can. Sometimes I have an additional small tray for my sabiki & live bait tackle.

My informal rule is this:
when launching from wherever, I tote the kayak to the sand, and then go back once more for the gear and when I get the gear to the boat I'm ready to go.
If I have more gear than I can carry in one trip, I'm bringing too much stuff. A couple of long-trail launches and you'll know what is essential for you.
For me the essential stuff is usually this is a mesh bag with landing stuff (gaff, pliers, gripper, bonker & gameclip), a plano marine box with my radio, FF, tackle tray, & water & snack, my two rods & my paddle. I wear my neoprene & PFD & hat.

One trick that helped me was to have an attachment point inside the kayak, where I store a throw bag of rope and a bilge pump on short leashes. They are always with the kayak & I don't have to worry about forgetting them.

It might also be a good idea to have a knife attached to your PFD for any emergency (flip yak and get tangled in leashes or bungies etc.)
here is a seggestion:

I prefer the blunt tip as you will be less likley to stab yourself in a panic situation but still able to cut cords.

Dang man it sounds like you been doing your homework! I'd add a bowline w/kelp clip, hand flare, net (we're required to carry a net onboard even though nobody ever gets cited for not having one), fishing rods & tackle (you s/b able to put all your tackle into 1 plano box),  hat, sunblock, water, Dramamine, ...hmmm I know there's more.
The best thing to do is get out there and paddle around with all this stuff. Then you'll have an idea what gear you can leave behind next time.

Hey Knewman34,

I too ride an O.K. Malibu II XL Angler :smt001

Welcome to the site. :smt004

All of the above comments are good ones :smt002

Sounds like your set up just fine with safety and yak fishing gear

If you plan on paddling from the center/solo position you won't need or want to add bow weight /3 gallon water bottle = 24 lbs., like others have said think light. :smt002

I'm interested in how you have rigged you yak, any pictures?

Welcome to the madness :smt003

Wide brim hat and a pair of sunglasses. :smt002 This will help tremendously when
fishing for many hours on the water.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I am going Monday to try everything out! (Thanks Pat)

I will leave the bow weight in the car this trip (thanks Tad) maybe you can shoot me a picture or two of your yak. I have pics I will load up later.

I do have a knife for my life jacket and all of my fishing gear fits into my tackle box. I don't have a lot but I have plenty to get started.

I can't wait for Monday to roll around. Hope the weather is good!

Thanks again everyone

Kevin
