yea gary has a downrigger and a setup that is pretty nice and works great on his boat! I yelled out to him after like his Ninth consecutive fish caught on the rigger, "Hey thats cheating"! lol....he makes it look easy! But i just use a 3 way swivel setup very similar to a bay/halibut drift rig, but add in a dodger of my choice! It works pretty good, but u gotta try to keep moving as u let your line down to prevent tangling the rig! This setup and tecnique would be much easier for anybody who has a Hobie of course! And to keep your line straight down at the right depth u just have add more weight or let more line out. heres an example:
