Kurt PM-ed me on the norcalkayak site about a Commanche yak hookup. I convinced him to go for Melones instead. I trailered up the peddle yaks and met Kurt Sunday morning at 7:30 in Farmington. Rainy overcast and mid 40's. We launched at G hole and peddled towards Carson Creek. I hooked up on the troll with a mepps spinner. Nice little rainbow.

We continued up the creek arm amidst ospreys and grebes and fish rising everywhere.

My meter was pretty well lit up. I worked the bobber jig combo for quite a while for nothing. That rig killed last year but the rapidly clearing sky and calm winds obviously kept them down.

I heard Kurt whoopin and peddled out to see.

He was into them steady trolling a small brown Kalin's grub way back with a little bullet sinker. He gave me a pack of green ones and I started hooking up as well.  They were slamming this rig. Kurt was getting a fish or two every pass.

He kept a couple.

I landed one nice spot on the spinner.

 Great day on the water.

Patrick threw down the invitation to try New Melones on one of his peddle yaks. He picked me up in Farmington and drove us in. Man I gota say those small towns like Angel Camp are very nice. And I love that lake!

His yaks.

We had some sprinkles in the morning.

Trolling on the way to a cove Patrick got one on a mepps spinner.

We got to the cove and I had'nt got a single nibble yet. So I started to break out the grubs. Black, no worky. Neon Green, no worky... White, no worky. Put a big brown kalin grub on and started to get hit! It was getting pummeled.

The fun part was just trolling around slow all day getting tagged. 90% of the hits wouldnt stick and they would continue to attack it. I had to swithch grubs out just cuz they wouldn't stay on the hook anymore from being chewed up.

Took a break.

Back out eating some left overs.

We headed back in.

What a fun way to fish! Peddle slow trolling rules!

Thanks for sharing the lake and the yak Patrick!
Do your best; and forget the rest! -Tony Horton

Hmmmmm.... brown grubs eh? You think they look alot like Purina Trout Chow?  :smt002 Never tried those for trout before. Interesting. Sounds like they were very color selective too.
