Someone was asking for a "picture" to go with the stolen kayak story.....this guy is from the "Monterey area" and the name matches the article:

I am not on facebook or myspace so I am not sure if you can dig deeper into his listed friends but I was wondering the name Amy Gonzalez, an accomplice, is on his friends list?
I may print a pic of his face and put it on my kicking bag!   :kungfu

Ha! I hadn't heard about this Pebble Beach kayak-theft syndicate until about 5 minutes ago. I'm glad to hear the PG Dep't caught some bad guys for once. But this sounds more like a case of stealing a kayak from somebody they know. There's got to be more to this story--I highly doubt this group of four 18-ish girls and one 19-year-old guy were driving around the peninsula looking to jack some random kayak.

And this certainly isn't an offense worth obsessing about. I mean, there was yet another shooting in Salinas last night--a very unfortunate story that replays each night. I'm not comparing violent crimes to kayak-theft....just pointing out that there ARE more important things to worry about.
Heck, where were all the 18-year-old Pebble Beach kayak girls when I was in high school? (or college) Hahaha!

Hmmm...I just noticed the weirdest thing. On that dude's facebook profile, it lists somebody I know as his friend. Strange because she's more than twice his age. I'll try to find out how she knows him. But then again, I probably shouldn't give a rat's ass.

Hi Tote,

No - I didn't see their names listed.

No obsessing here Sin Coast, I was just interested in this story because I am hoping to find a great deal on a Hobie Outback for my husband and don't want to buy a "hot" yak.

I would like to say this: All Kayak vendors need to have, at the very least, a camera monitoring system installed on their properties and especially in their storage areas. Im not pointing fingers because I haven't looked at everyones security setup. But, with an outback running 1700~ retail each yak lost is a big dent in the wallet and well worth the investment in video surveillance to protect.  Is this sounding like an ad yet? K good. I wont drop names just call your local Property Protection agency and see what they offer for cams. You can get cams that will even let you remote monitor, they will contact you via email and sms if motion is detected in a zone you have chosen, and ones that can see at night. If you have any questions regarding cams, patrol visits, or standing guard please send me a pm. Though I would love for everyone in my area to come to my employer for help I am offering...advice, and I wont preach my company unless you ask for refferals in your area blah blah.

Unfortunately there is little I can do to help you at home, I till say this "Bike chains, Padlocks, storage sheds, or garages"

Rebuilding my kit, last year I put everything on the curb for free. Some lucky guy and his gal scooped everything. Remind me never to do that again.
Items needed:
4mm wetsuit 2xl?
vhf                                  new paddle (using my paddles from 1996)
lip gripper                       crab pot
new yak...(in my dreams)

I used to take it for granted that I just put my yak in the rafters in my garage or even leave it on the side of the house. I doubt anyone would even steal it, it's almost 25 years old and is one of those anybody would recognize. I do like the paint schemes though, might give it a try.
