Martin & me arrived oh so early and soon were joined by Tim aka 'Meat Hunter" Daviator showed up at a more reasonable time. His bride and kids took in the aquarium after dropping off Dave and his Yak. I've seen this scenario played out by Sonny @ Paradise He who arrives last jackpots. Tim also has the right stuff. I'm still on a roll, my day will come maybe. I'm not clever enough to post pictures, but some were taken. If this crew is as tired as me, I suspect none will post tonight

ok sonny..no more teasing... funny guy..

tired yes..but hobie dave and martin must have been much more exhausted..I bet both got caught in nasty Bay Area traffic on the drive home... I was fast asleep as   wife cruised that leg home in the car pool lane.

Still, I had to clean 4 fish  and shake down my gear.and realized that I have a new task to learn...how to quickly and cleanly filet fish...you see this is a novel experience for one who hasn't caught much from the yak.

glad to have joined 2 good fellow members on the water (and meeting meat eater Tim) to close out my inaugural rock cod season. After  getting skunked earlier in summer at the MBK and Davenport (Santa Cruz) derbys... I thought I'd give the ocean one last try before the season closed...

I met up with these guys around 945..I introduced them to the Bahn Mi...my favorite lunch while fishing..its a vietnamese sandwich...when martin asked me whats inside...I cautioned him not to be too inquisitive..and just to eat it.. ( I honestly don't know what kind of mystery meat it is but it is good..trust me). I always make a pit stop at Lee's sandwiches off Jackson on my way south 880 in hayward.

anyway..around 1pm I stumbled upon a productive area and ended up with a double. I was using a Megabait with a shrimp fly a foot up. both were tipped with some squid..
I have to admit..the bites were a foreign feeling..I can see how addictive it is.. Albeit none were much to brag about...all keepers were nice eating size..
i picked up 8 of which 2 were released. ( I need to educate myself on that rig that can depressurizes their bloated air sacs..as a couple could have been sent back down)

back on beach...met up with family and hobie dave generously shared his awesome smoked halibut. good fellowship and thankfully calm conditions on water.

anyway, exhausted after cleaning up gear last night so sorry for the late post.

Thanks for sharing some cool pictures daviator. Congrats on the nice haul.

VHDave and Martin, too bad you both started late on rockfishing. I'm sure you
both know how addicting it is catching those rockfish on a kayak. At least now
you have something to look forward to next year.

Save some Saturdays for me so we can all go on a sleigh ride with the dino's.

Great report - love the happy faces in the photos.  That's a nice stringer, Daviator!  Congrats on the catches.  Nice looking family too!   :smt001

Looks like you all had a great trip to softly close out the season, sometimes the late season trips leave you wondering you you went :smt044

Great spot to entertain the fam while the "men" do their thing, BTDT, works great.

Thanks for the reports and pics,

Thank You Dave for the post and all that you shared. That was just not some shameless plug for Lee's Sandwiches. The sandwich was the BEST EVER. Pam and I will stop there tomorrow, on our way to Santa Cruz. We're camping at the harbor marina Sat. nite, non yak only for the WAF.           I wish Santa would come early to Martin's with a replacement camera. We all miss his posting with pictures.
Jed this weekend trip may earn that Sat. potential dino sleigh ride.
