The other day I sent these questions to DFG:

For 2010, I'm wondering if the ocean salmon season at Shelter Cove will start the 2nd Saturday in February as it did in the past.  Also, do we know when the rockfish and lingcod season will open in 2010 for the Northern and North-Central mgt. areas?

Here is the answer I got back from Mary Patyten:

Hello Mr. [Abking   :smt004],

Recreational ocean salmon season regulations are published annually in the Freshwater & Ocean Sport Fishing Supplement (generally distributed in May; available wherever sport fishing licenses are sold, at your local DFG office, and online at www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations). This year's supplement lists the opener south of Horse Mtn. (which includes Shelter Cove) as April 3, 2010 with the following caveat: There is a possibility this opener will be closed by emergency action from the Pacific Fishery Management Council and the California Fish and Game Commission in March 2010.

At this point, it looks likely the rockfish and lingcod season will open at the same time of year in 2010 as in 2009. Exact dates have not been set yet.

I hope this helps,

yours,

Since the original Gimme Shelter in March of '07 was a salmon trolling event I'm thinking GS4 just might be in early April...

Food for thought anyway.   :smt001

If we do the early version for salmon we WILL have ab opportunities, but we will NOT have rockie and ling fishing from the yaks as it won't open until May.  We can rockfish from shore, but it's not the same...

Salmon fishing in the ocean is worth it to me.  We could always come back when rock/ling opens.   :smt001

For now let's just hope we get an ocean salmon opener!

N B, you had better make plans for a stateside visit again.
GS4 is as good a reason as any buddy.

Hope to see everyone again plus another 50 new people!

IN!
But it w/b AWESOME if we could somehow plan the event to occur when both seasons are open: salmon AND rockfish! The salmon fishing in April is slow anyways, right?  :smt003
