Hi Yakers:

I can remember when I first ran into Joel at FW when, I relocated
from Mendcino Co. Too bad about the new business Plan.
I belive it's going to require me to do my homework before I go shopping at FW. It's becoming hard to find a Shop where the Mgr. can afford to work and go fishing! :smt044

Oh man that sucks!!

No offense to the others at that store, but IMO it's hit and miss, depending who you ask and what you're askin about.

Good thing we have experts here to tell us what to go get.

To be honest they'd still be my GO-TO tackle shop even if they had NO staff, and self-checkout stands just because of the selection.

Strange that I wrote this message to vent and let everybody know that Glenn was let go (after hearing it from his nephew). Then I saw that it was already mentioned in this post. But here's my message anyways.

In tough economic times, it is important for a business to maintain a harmonious relationship with its customers. One way to retain clients is by offering excellent customer service. And I can’t imagine an employee who better exemplified this principle than Glenn Fukumoto, at the San Jose Fishermen’s Warehouse.
Every time I visited the store, he was helping a customer. And I have read many, many, many posts on fishing websites where fellow anglers praise his vast fishing knowledge and his ability to help customers. Glenn is legendary among Bay area anglers.
So I was very surprised and extremely saddened to hear that Glenn was let go recently. I have to assume it was due to the economic downturn. But seriously….what the heck is FW thinking?

Would you like to share a story about a time when Glenn helped you?

Really disappointed,
Pat Kuhl

Geez...Glenn helped me more times than I can recall.  He helped me pick out more than one reel, gave advice on lines...not to mention the Thursday night seminars that he taught.  I still have my halibut fishing notes from the last one sitting in the truck...I might find it hard to shop there now for anything other than hard-to-find items.  It's cheaper elsewhere...especially online.  :smt009

Glenn has been a good friend of mine for many years, I can still remember when he was a Rep for Kuhnan rods and Owner Hooks and I will miss our talks.
With that said please remember that Thomas has been thrust into some big shoes to fill in San Jose and has proven to be a great guy. It was upon his request that I was able to deliver a couple T-15's to Ebjew@!#^%&*??? in Monterey on Sunday and Thomas has proven that he is willing to bend over backwords to help his customers. Granted he doesn't have the experiance that Glenn held but than again not many do. All I ask is that you give him a chance to prove himself and you may be suprised.

A few months ago, I did a post looking for Glenn from Fisherman's Warehouse.  Apparently, they let him go.  BIG MISTAKE!  I've searched all over for him and found him now over at Outdoor Pro Shop in Oakland.  I've already visited the store.  It's pretty awesome!  They have as  much stuff if not more than FW.  Seeing that you like Glenn's customer service and knowledge as much as I do, maybe you'll trek over there to see him.  Anyways, I agree, he was hands down the best employee FW had and now my business is going over to Outdoor Pro Shop.
It's a bit of a drive for me but well worth it when I need up to date tackle info and great customer service.
