Kicked some butt at the port today

Tooked the kids to the port of sac for some crappie and stripers.  We were all in the yaks for a while, then to shore.  the kids wanted to soak bait, so they put out sardines for catfish and stripers.  I trolled rapalas close to shore near them.  Two guys pulled up behind my truck and started fishing. I worked my way closer, and Cody happened to cast over one of their lines.  The guy started screaming at him and shoved him to the ground! I covered that 100 yards in about 2 seconds. Let's just say, they will not be fishing anytime soon, and pretty sure, neither one will be man-handling any kids for a while.  You all know what I wanted to do, but stopped just short. Why do people do that?

Whoa!  Bad scene, Man.  I'm glad you got the upper hand. 

Too bad a great day with your kids was spoiled in that way. But glad you were close enough to put a stop to it and school them a little. I'm glad it turned out alright--these kind of things can go sideways and fast. Who knows why that happens or why people uses violence as a first instead of last resort so often when it so often only complicates and deepens problems.

Lets do the math, 1 pissed off army ranger, 2 dumb thugs, two scared kids = me dang near beating them to an inch of their lives. I am law enforcement, so I only went so far, and the boys in blue took it from there. Lets just say, I got my satisfaction, and most important, the kids are fine.  Taking them to Caples lake to fish tomorrow, letting Cody paddle my yak solo for a while to make him feel betr.

Hey Rich, I'm glad Cody is OK. It is really sad some people go that far over a
little thing. That was not called for at all. Glad you were able to teach them a
lesson or two. I wouldn't know how I would have handled it if my son was shoved
to the ground like that. Perhaps,I would have been the one behind bars you know
what I mean?

Question: "Why do people do that?" Being a bully is sick, twisted, self destructive "fun" until the bully get's caught and schooled. We can only hope that they learned their lesson but I'm glad you passed out the slaps and then called the cops. jim

I don't have kids but when family's involved I get unpinned...WTG sounded like u would've done some damage to some young punks, but refrained and let the "law" handle it, which your part of...hats off to u bro!!! and if I miss read this and u thumped um a couple times. well deserved!!!

Gotta do what ya gotta do to protect the family. Sounds like a lot of violence. Wasn't there to judge whether it was necessary. Even to trained people like us, fillet knives are hard to stop. Not judging, probably would have done the same, but just thinking a fathers life is worth more to his children than a little extra beatdown on some useless morons.

I used to live in the subdivision just south of the barge channel east of the locks.  I wouldn't want to fight any of the local toughs, most likely Russian immigrant teenagers.  Then again, your thugs don't sound too local (they had a pickup after all), so they are pretty lucky that they only ran into you, who is apparently capable of some degree of restraint.  I wouldn't think that the thugs would have been so lucky if they started pushing around one of the Russian kids.

Sometimes you gotta defend yourself and/or family. Well done and congrats on catching some fish, too!

In situations like that, my biggest concern is that the court system will hold me accountable for beating someone's ass (even if I felt justified)...and take my freedom and my $$. A punch in the face I can handle. Being broke and away from my family is unimaginable.
